Summary/Objective
The Quality Assurance Technician at More Than a Bakery is expected to effectively and efficiently perform the expectations and guidelines outlined. Primarily he/she will perform laboratory testing on in process and/or finished product to ensure documented specifications are met and communicate regularly with the production group on current test results to avoid running product that does not meet specification.
Essential Functions

1. Responsible for ensuring the production of safe and high quality products through verification of all processes and keen attention to all of More Than a Bakery’s Critical Control Points.
2. Ability to measure product moisture using a HB43-F Moisture Meter or equivalent and calibrate the equipment per company SOP(s).
3. Determine Granulation of a finished product using a Ro-Tap Machine.
4. Determine pH of a sample and maintain the pH meter per company SOP(s).
5. Utilize a colorimeter to test color and shade of a finished product.
6. Ensure Retains & Micro samples are pulled and tested according to company SOP(s).
7. Understand and follow “Good Documentation Practices” and Good Laboratory Practices.
8. Perform Pre-Operation checks prior to production running a line to ensure equipment is clean, proper labeling and code dates, and materials from previous runs have been removed.
9. Perform weight and dimensional checks on finished product to ensure it’s in specification.
10. Complete Swell Test Volume Testing on products as required.
11. Check Sifter Tailings on Bulk Flour and Sugar systems and document results.
12. Perform Vacuum Testing on finished product.
13. Perform Oxygen Residual Testing on finished product.
14. Complete Operational Verification checks on Checkweigher and Metal Detectors as outlined in company SOP(s).
15. Document all test data results on proper forms.
16. Perform requirements outlined in the “On Hold” SOP.
17. Assist in Raw Material receipt and sampling for confirmatory testing.
18. Aseptic sampling of bulk raw material tankers.
19. Perform equipment verifications and calibration as required per SOP.
20. Computer work involves printing Ro-Tap, line 3 paperwork, and production labels.
21. Check received film against film standards to ensure accuracy, then approve film by preparing More Than a Bakery labels.
22. Perform QA portion of Receiving SOP by preparing labels. In addition, perform verification step of CCP for labels.
23. Basic sensory testing, must be able to identify poorly mixed batches, through sight, smell, taste, and texture.
24. Confidence to stand behind decision, regardless of pressure to release product.
25. Keep work areas clean, orderly, and extra items picked up and properly stored (i.e. labels, etc.)
26. Understand, learn and follow all QC Technician guidelines including Plex procedures.
27. Adhere to proper break/lunch relief procedures.
28. Understand and comply with all policies set forth by management.
29. Follow all GMPs as well as HACCP procedures; understand, observe and comply with the handling and proper usage of color coded containers.
30. Fill in for any position that you are qualified to perform as instructed by Supervision and practice continuous training for all positions within your department.
31. Follow and promote all safety policies and procedures and notify Supervision of any unsafe act immediately.
32. Notify Supervision/Maintenance of any needed repairs or required adjustments as soon as they are noted.
33. Perform any and all duties required to meet AIB, SQF, Company, and/or Governmental requirements/standards as set forth by More Than a Bakery.
34. Capable of lifting 50 lbs repetitively.
35. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
36. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a family member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the family member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Family member must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined areas, and in awkward positions. Must be able to climb ladders, over, under, and around machinery to work on equipment as necessary
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Minimum of 2 years’ quality assurance experience and/or training, preferably in food manufacturing.
