Welding Technician Lead Trainer - 1st Shift
Location: Denver, PA
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Welding Technician Lead Trainer will maintain the quality of our product by ensuring all welders within the organization meet our engineering standards and comply with standard welding skills and competencies as established by the Corporate Welding Trainer and Corporate Welding Manager. This position will have a matrixed reporting relationship to the Corporate Welding Training and the site leadership team. This position will be certified and will lead the training and certification of all site welders to comply and demonstrate proficiency in the six welding areas:
Test #1 - Carbon steel to carbon steel (T-Joint)
Test #2 - Carbon steel to carbon steel groove joint with backing plate.
Test #3 - Galvannealed steel to galvannealed steel T- joint
Test #4 - Stainless steel to stainless steel groove joint with backing plate
Test #5 - Aluminum to aluminum groove joint with backing plate
Test #6 - Flux core welding on carbon steel to carbon steel up hill and overhead welding on groove joint with backing plate (This test conducted by Morgan Corporation Welding Manager or AWS Qualified Trainer).
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Hiring responsibilities
•The Welding Technician Lead Trainer will be responsible for ensuring that any welder hired has met the requirements for the particular weld test(s) in which s/he will work.
•The Welding Technician Lead Trainer will be responsible to ensure welders are qualified and trained before a welder performs another Morgan welding application once employed.
•The Welding Technician Lead Trainer will assume responsibility to ensure that all welders have the required certification for any of the six welding applications (tests) that Morgan has established.
2. Training/Mentor/SME
•Serves as the SME and ensure that all welders adhere to performing welding functions to standards and use all required PPE and train on how to ensure PPE is working properly.
•Be available to train and answer questions related to welding applications, review, clarify engineering drawings and serve as subject matter expert on AWS welding symbols and answer respond to environmental health and safety issues as required.
•As the SME, deliver the welder training program on site as needed to support production. Provide training to each current and new welding team member on Morgan Engineering Standards 2-15 and 2-16.
•Maintain the quality and integrity of the training program as defined by the Corporate Welding Trainer.
•Ensure that all quality technicians, area leads, team leads, line leads and supervisors are trained based on their responsibilities and acknowledge that Morgan welding procedures are to be followed.
•Provide periodic refresher training (~once per year) as defined by the Corporate Welding Trainer to current welders to ensure quality standards are maintained.
3. Compliance/auditing
•Implement monthly audit program for all welding applications at Morgan to ensure that all welds are to engineering specifications and in accordance with engineering prints.
•Perform random weld audits for all welders under scope of responsibility. Perform more frequent audits on new welders immediately following certification in any Morgan welding process.
•Responsible person to inspect any welding problems reported by Morgan quality technicians or customers from referenced warranty work and craft a summary report of findings to Corporate Welding Manager.
•Take the lead in identifying and correcting root causes of welding problems found during audits or feedback from our customers.
•Responsible to maintain and update weld certification tracker on public shared drive and ensure all welders are in the proper grade and compensation structure for skill level in which they have demonstrated certification.
•Responsible to maintain continuity reports.
4. Skills
•Ability to read complex blue prints, read dial calipers, read a tape measure and understand how to read decimals and convert to decimals.
•Can work independently with little to no supervision.
•Competent and knowledgeable on how to set up welding and cutting equipment including auto welder.
•Certified on all six welding applications for Morgan and can maintain certification annually.
•AWS certified.
•Experience in performing welding functions within Morgan desired.
EXPERTISE REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.High school diploma required but prefer a 2-year technical degree.
2.Must be able to pass FBI clearance and Child Abuse clearance
3.Strong written and oral communication ability.
4.Strong organizational skills.
5.Ability to motivate and interact with all levels within the organization.
6.A minimum of 2 years' experience (preferred) in all of the six welding applications with AWS certification current and maintain through tenure of holding the role.
7.Solid knowledge in different welding applications and language.
8.Previous group facilitator experience.
9.Previous training experience (preferred).
10.Maintain AWS certifications and attend required re-fresher training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job operates in a manufacturing plant environment. Must be able to work in a non-climate controlled environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
