Salary:  
  • Unlicensed: $33.50/hr. - $35.88/hr. (Bilingual Spanish : $36.16/hr. - $38.74/hr.)
  • Licensed : $36.75/hr. - $39.37/hr. (Bilingual Spanish : $39.68/hr. - $42.50/hr.)

Position Summary:
The Lead Mental Health Therapist (MHT) provides outpatient mental health and/or substance use treatment services for children, adolescents, and their families, in a clinic setting. The responsibilities include assessments, treatment planning, individual, family, and group therapy. Therapists work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and represent the organization and its values. The Lead MHT collaborates with the Clinical Manager/Supervisor to coordinate and conduct training for new and experienced team members as well as providing guidance and support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy services. Completes all clinical documentation in accordance with state, federal and organizational requirements, with an emphasis on collaborative documentation.  
  • Provides case management and coordinates referrals to community resources. Assists clients with completion of necessary paperwork to facilitate access to services and funding sources essential to completion of the established plan of care.  
  • Recognizes personal strengths and limitations, feelings and needs. 
  • Verbally and non-verbally de-escalates crisis situations in a manner that protects dignity and integrity. 
  • Uses scheduled supervision constructively, seeks feedback to improve performance, and accepts and utilizes feedback to improve outcomes.  
  • Models safe language and demonstrates appropriate boundaries with peers, clients, and families. Intervenes and provides support when staff, clients or families are unsafe with language or behaviors. 
  • Provides leadership, support and training to new and experienced clinicians within assigned program.  
  • Is present and punctual for work and/or meetings. Works well within a team environment, sharing workload, credit, and opportunities.  
  • Completes other duties as assigned to ensure successful operation of program/department.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.  
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to equity and inclusion in the workplace; model appropriate behaviors; develop, recommend, and implement improvements to business practices with awareness and understanding of the impact in a trauma-informed and culturally diverse organization.
Competencies:
  • Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge appropriate to the mental health treatment of children birth to 18 (e.g., DSM 5, general counseling skills, therapeutic interventions etc.).   
  • Implements intervention strategies consistent with client information and goals. 
  • Conceptualizes cases independently and accurately. 
  • Behaves professionally (demeanor, dress, language, commitments, etc.). 
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize professional limitations and seeks supervision when appropriate. 
  • Acknowledges and respects the diversity of all individuals and demonstrate openness to providing culturally responsive care and treatment to clients and their families. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in assessing suicide risk factors and facilitating screening and triage. 
  • Demonstrates sufficient knowledge to support clients experiencing a mental health crisis including de-escalation techniques and facilitating access to appropriate crisis services.
  • Understands and complies with mandatory reporting requirements. Use developmentally appropriate and trauma informed approach to follow agency protocol for assessment and intervention.  
Required Position Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field   
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a mental health, social services, educational, or other related setting.
Preferred Position Qualifications: 
  • Bilingual in Spanish, both written and spoken 
  • Current Oregon or other state Licensed Mental Health Professional  
  • Three years direct treatment experience with children and/or adolescents in a mental health setting 
  • One year of supervision/leadership experience 
  • One year of experience as a mental health therapist at Morrison Child and Family Services
Other Requirements:
  • Able to pass a comprehensive criminal history background investigation  
  • Must pass language testing if applicable 
For positions that require driving:  
  • Must hold valid driver’s license— Oregon or Washington within 30 days of hire 
  • If driving personal vehicle, must maintain minimum auto insurance policy 
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms; talk and hear. Visual abilities include close and distance vision. Occasionally this position requires walking, stooping, bending and lifting, up to 10 pounds, without assistance.  
 
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a noise level of large groups of people. Possible exposure to communicable diseases which can encompass a variety of illnesses and infections, including tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, B, and C, infectious meningitis, and HIV.  Exposure to upset, angry, severely traumatized, or emotionally impacted children, adolescents and families.
