The Role
Motion is looking for an SEO Lead to own our content-led efforts in scaling new user acquisition via organic search. Reporting into the Head of Growth, this person will serve as a marketing leader responsible for increasing Motion’s organic presence and ultimately driving subscriber conversions. Our management team has placed a strategic bet that SEO will be a critical acquisition channel in the company’s near future. It is currently more important than ever to build a strong operating engine around publishing, optimizing, and building a feedback loop for leveling up content (via content quality, speed of execution, topical authority). We are looking for someone who can get hands on with improving already written articles and optimizing click performance, as well as has the hunger to build an A-level content team starting in the back half of the year. We believe our paid acquisition channel is best in class (in all humbleness). Meanwhile, our SEO has already gone from 0→1. With the right Lead we believe that SEO can achieve the same outcome!
Responsibilities
Content execution: deep experience in editorial work and content writing. Able to understand and communicate what problems our site visitors are looking to solve and how Motion is the right or wrong solution. Able to roll-up sleeves to write and optimize content. You’ll be starting as an IC with the opportunity to grow a team in 6 months.
Operations and scaling: develop and own Motion’s SEO operating machine, including content production and optimization, site audits, monitoring SEO KPIs, and performance analyses.
Strategy and direction: advance the company’s SEO strategy by identifying and evaluating opportunities, analyzing the evolving SEO and competitive landscape, and initiating experiments and initiatives to drive conversions.
Data analysis and reporting: regularly analyze key SEO and product metrics, such as keyword rankings, conversion rates, and competitor analytics, to gauge success, identify growth opportunities, and provide informed forecasts and ROI estimates.
What we’re looking for
Minimum 5 years of SEO experience. Must have in-depth knowledge on how to scale SEO into at least several 100K visitors per month. Possess extensive knowledge of key drivers of organic ranking, algorithm changes, keyword analysis, content strategy, and technical SEO.
Editorial background. Ability to manage a top content team comes from having been on the content side. An excellent writer but even more importantly experience editing, sharing feedback, and motivating writers. We believe this requires both a keen eye for detail and high EQ.
Analytical skills. Correctly identifies the most important SEO metrics. Has a strong ability to interpret complex data from multiple sources, informing SEO strategy and evaluating channel success. Experience projecting impact and ROI of SEO efforts.
SEO tools expertise. Fluidity with tools like Google Search Console, Semrush and/or Ahrefs, CMSs, Screaming Frog - you’re well past the learning phase for tools.
Strong communicator. We know enough to be dangerous (conversational) but very eager to advance our SEO knowledge. Looking for a clear communicator who can dive deep when needed.
