We like plants, people, and beautiful spaces. John Mulhall came to Omaha in 1953 to landscape, and now, three generations later, we’re as committed as we’ve ever been to making Omaha a more beautiful place to live. Today we’re a team of a few hundred people, but our focus remains the same: working together to engage our community and share our passion for the beauty of the natural world. And we have fun doing it.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a member of our Merchandising + Pro Sales team at Mulhall’s Garden + Home, you’ll report to the Merchandising + Pro Manager. You’ll be responsible for developing and implementing the merchandising strategy for annuals – driving planned sales, maximizing inventory efficiency, and hitting profitability targets. You’ll tell the brand story and own your business – proactively pivoting when needed and recognizing opportunities – all in line with our vision to be the most loved plant shop in the country.
YOUR IMPACT
o Champion our product philosophy and brand story - closely following market trends and monitoring business results, adapting as needed
o Establish, grow, and maintain strong vendor partnerships through consistent communication, effective negotiation, and some market travel
o Own the creation of all floor set planograms and work closely with the Store team on execution and presentation
o Own and present strategies for each of your departments seasonally – driving sales, margin, and turn
o Build seasonal plans that align with strategy goals while monitoring your monthly Open to Buy projections, taking actionable steps based on business fluctuations
o Grow our Pro business by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with Pro customers – providing accurate availabilities, ensuring our Pro customers’ needs are met, and closing sales
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
o 3+ years of experience in retail buying or a related field
o An interest in and awareness of evolving trends
o A strong sense of urgency and the ability to initiate action without daily direction
o An ability to multi-task, keeping several projects running at one time
o Attention to detail with a strong discipline to solve problems and drive results
o An ability to think both critically and analytically
o A passion for building and sustaining collaborative relationships at multiple levels within a company
o An ability to use various software applications
