Goals: Our museum’s team manages and preserves digital assets and ensures that appropriate access systems exist for the Museum’s digitized historic collection. As part of an effort to improve the discoverability and accessibility of its time-based media collections, our technology oversees the creation of time-coded metadata. Over the next fiscal year, the goal is to make these time-coded transcripts available in the Museum’s online Collections Search. These time-coded transcripts are machine generated and then improved in a 2-step process by human editors. Editors “flag” words or phrases they are unsure of. These “flags” must be reviewed and fixed, when possible, by a person with specialized knowledge of the related terminology in order to be used in collections search.
