National Scholarships and Prestigious Fellowship Coordinator

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Deans of Undergraduate Education, promote successful applications of BYU students to national scholarships and prestigious fellowships (Rhodes Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, Truman Scholarship, Gates Cambridge Scholarship, Fulbright Fellowships,

etc.) by publicizing availability of scholarships and fellowships and facilitating the preparation of quality applications. Oversees office administration of student employees and other employee.

Essential Functions

1. Serve as the campus contact, coordinator, and advocate for selected scholarships. (70%)

  • Advertise availability and deadlines for scholarships and fellowships;
  • Identify potential scholarship candidates, and work with them as they prepare applications;
  • Plan and coordinate student information events;
  • Correspond with students, faculty, and national scholarship offices on a regular basis.

2. Supervise non-student employee responsible for Fulbright Fellowships (5%)

  • Work with units to identify potential applicants.

3. Coordinate faculty committees that evaluate applicants. (5%)

4. Supervise and coordinate the work of student employees (15%)

  • Student employees help manage events, arrange mentoring and provide information to students

5. Assess the effectiveness of your efforts (5%)

  • Arranging for committee reviews of applications
  • Managing relationships with national offices
  • Student hiring, assignments, and supervision

  • Collaborate with supervisors and faculty on applicant selection.
  • Collaborate with directors and deans on selection of faculty for committees.
  • Work with directors and deans to determine strategy for focusing on selected scholarships.
  • Work with the director on yearly budgeting

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience

Required: BA or BS degree

Preferred: Graduate Degree

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications (please indicate whether “required” or “preferred”)

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, priorities and resource allocation
  • Experience working with students
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

  • History of academic achievement
  • Familiarity with higher education administration
  • Advisement credentials and/or experience
