Backup Engineer
SUMMARY
A Backup Engineer possesses extensive knowledge in backup solutions and collaborates closely with OS,
Virtualization, Storage, Network teams, and product owners to troubleshoot and resolve daily incidents
using strong technical skills. Additionally, the Backup Engineer is responsible for installing, managing,
configuring, and monitoring all backup systems and infrastructure. Also, systems must be kept up to date
with the latest industry standards, stability must be maintained, and system uptime must be ensured. The
Backup Engineer also works on assigned projects according to company requirements, delivering them on
time with the highest quality and reliability. The role requires supporting a 16x5 operation roster with
weekend on-call support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountability
o Knowledge & experience of Backup/Storage technologies such as IBM Spectrum
Protect and HYCU.
o Sound knowledge and experience in Backup hardware devices such as Tape
Library’s / Data Domains.
o Strong conceptual background on backup architecture & offsite tape rotations.
o Good knowledge of concepts of networking, virtualization, storage and operating
systems.
o Strong communication and presentation skills.
o Stay current on new technologies and new features.
o Automation and configuration management experience.
o Provide input to team leads/Managers and collaboratively work with them in
ongoing projects.
o Good understanding on ITIL processes regarding incident, change, problem, and
task work
o Ensure company processes, policies, and standards are being adhered
Delivery Responsibilities
o Backup Engineer is expected to maintain, manage and upgrade backup
infrastructure according to defined Policies and Standards.
o Maintain the daily backup success rate over 99% in TSM and HYCU platforms.
o Practice meeting all organizational wide technical practices and standards - i.e.
architectural, quality and regulatory.
o Attending issues in a timely manner and resolving incidents according to SLA’s.
o Continuously monitor systems/Channels and respond within agreed time
intervals.
o Enables timely delivery of the projects.
o Facilitates communication between Technical Operations and Product
Engineering Teams when required, including engineering status and technical
information.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• A degree level of education in an IT discipline or have the equivalence in training,
experience and exposure.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in highly technical Backup environments, especially
TSM /IBM Spectrum protect environments.
• Knowledge and more than (1) year experience in HYCU backup solutions.
• Vendor Certifications on relevant technologies (IBM Certified Administrator - Spectrum
Protect v8/v7 or any other backup certifications).
• ITIL- Foundation / AWS / Azure Certification would be an added advantage.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position is based in an office environment in Chennai or Bangalore, involving many hours of computer
work in a cubicle setting. The employees are expected to work 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely
from home. When working remotely, a suitable location with reliable internet and power facilities should be
ensured to support seamless work.
The candidate should be willing to work on UK shifts 1-10PM IST and be a part of an on-call roster,
weekends rotation basis
