What You Will Do
NIE-CS is a customer-focused group and part of the Network Infrastructure and Engineering Division (NIE) which is responsible for the architectural design, implementation and maintenance of LANL's open and classified networks. The Network Professional 1 will work in the Core Services group (NIE-CS) Network Operations Center Team which provides network support 24/7 to the Laboratory and is responsible for monitoring, managing and maintaining network assets on all LANL networks.
As a trusted team member, you will assist with firmware upgrades, hardware upgrades & replacements, troubleshoot network issue, and utilize internal monitoring tools on open and classified networks to respond to alerts and issues that arise. This role requires network troubleshooting experience, experience with network monitoring tools, and experience with related network technologies (DNS, DHCP, SNMP, syslog). The Network professional 1 will be comfortable working with others and assisting with projects and network issues. We are looking for a network professional who can assist with day-to-day operational issues along with ongoing projects and wants to continue to grow and learn in the networking field.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Troubleshoot enterprise network environments and restoring network services as quickly as possible

Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANS, spanning-tree)

Experience replacing and upgrading network equipment. (hardware and software)

Experience replacing / troubleshooting layer 1 media (copper & fiber)

Experience with creating / modifying network Diagrams (Visio, Office)
Education/Experience:
Position requires an Associate's Degree and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience using network management tools, including viewing / creating alarms, configuration management and troubleshooting syslog information

Experience with Cisco & Arista switches and routers.

Experience troubleshooting Enterprise-level wireless

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with customers and other staff (technical and non-technical)

Demonstrated experience configuring and maintaining network devices

Experience with ticketing systems / incident management

Cisco Certifications / Juniper Certifications
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Reaching overhead, reaching horizontally, reaching down, climbing a ladder, operating a motor vehicle, running & replacing network cables, typing, gripping with the hands, the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and replacing various networking equipment (switches, Access Points, Linecards, modules, etc)
Work Environment: in confined space, working alone, working overtime or irregular schedule, working off-shift/rotating schedule, operation of motor vehicles. Will be asked to work in laboratory areas that are in close proximity to areas performing hazardous work.
Work Location: The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Comittment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
