We are looking for a motivated, dynamic, and self-starting Network Systems Engineer II to join our growing team. This position will be responsible for the Engineering, Installation Design, and Turnup of Calix Systems using industry network best practices. Your technical leadership and guidance will help enable our communications service providers to deliver world class broadband access to their customers. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, experience in network design, and can provide top notch solutions to our customers.
Responsibilities
Strong experience with Central Office installation methods and procedures. Experience with installing and powering Central Office equipment
Experience installing equipment frames, overhead cable trays, fiber duct, raceways, various support methods, etc. Experience designing Central Office installations, specifying material, sizing power cabling, breaker\fuses sizing and creating cable running lists
Research, diagram and document existing Calix access networks, creating layer 1-3 diagrams in Visio
Engineer, diagram and document new Calix networks according to specified design criteria, creating layer 1-3 diagrams in Visio and determining configuration parameters to support customer requirements
Provision Calix networks, including some third party networking and telecom equipment, using a mix of manual provisioning (TL1, command line, etc.) and provisioning tools
Create and document new Engineering work procedures based on customer needs and Engineering requirements
Train and oversee junior engineers as needed
Provide support to field teams as they turn-up and test networks
Determine, document, sequence and communicate specific network implementation steps to support successful network deployments
Raise design issues and assist in determining solutions
Author detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs)
Communicate work status via tracking spreadsheet and phone calls
Obtain and maintain technical training and Calix certifications
Perform nighttime maintenance windows for upgrades and/or migrations
Approximately 5% travel
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with telecommunications networks, including FTTP, xDSL, IP, voice, etc.
Working knowledge of the Calix product portfolio or similar telecom equipment/technologies
Strong interpersonal skills
Resourceful disposition, able to work independently
A proven track record providing a high level of engineering, technical or project support
Excellent analysis, problem-solving and organization skills
Top-notch written and verbal communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Visio, Word and Excel
Working knowledge of Ethernet, IP, FTTx, ATM, xDSL, T1/T3 or GR-303 a plus
Cisco CCNA or higher certification a plus
BS/MS EE, CS, or equivalent a plus
