New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 56 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $110M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 348 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.

As a Central Supply Specialist I you play a critical role in our mission to "Save and Heal Lives". The CSS is responsible for supply inventory in all of NED's offices, including Waltham, Westbrook, and Vernon, CT. The CSS's responsibilities include shipping and receiving, ordering/stocking clinical supplies, tracking inventory levels with barcode inventory management system (BTM) and the proper sterilization and documentation of instruments. 

Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Daily data entry of supply inventory using NEDS online system BTM
  • Maintains relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Daily monitoring of all clinical equipment (freezers, sterilizer, washers, refrigerators) and completes required documentation when required.
  • Responsible for tissue storage, supply storage, sterilization, with AATB standards and NEDS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Completes required documentation through data entry into NEDS’s on-line systems including, but not limited to SharePoint, BTM, TrueNorth and ADP.
  • At the direction of the Manager, conducts on the job training with new hires.

Clinical:

  • Physically receives all deliveries to NEDS Waltham facility.
  • Responsible for ordering, re-stocking, rotating, and reconciling inventory par levels in all locations for clinical readiness.
  • Cleans, decontaminates and sterilizes instrument recovery kits per NEDS SOPs.
  • Required travel to satellite offices via NEDS’s to deliver, stock, rotate, and reconcile supplies using the inventory management system.  
  • Transport recovered tissue via NEDS’s vehicle from satellite offices to Waltham.
  • Responsible for shipping recovered tissue to processors, as necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of clinical areas including satellite offices per NEDS SOPs.
  • Cleans Kidney pumps for clinical readiness.
  • Responsible for arranging for the disposal of all NEDS medical waste.
  • Maintains linen inventory for clinical activity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Training:

  • Coaches/mentors new Central Supply Specialist I as they train and develop.
  • Timely completion of all initial and annual trainings via TalentEd.
  • Attend all departmental and organizational meetings

Additional responsibilities include shelving and rotating stock, cleaning and sterilization of instrument kits as well as cleaning of the clinical areas per NEDS standards, and arranging for the disposal of all NEDS medical waste.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a hospital or medical field in central processing, inventory control or database entry preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Basic computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn NEDS’s internal systems including but not limited to True North.
  • Must be able to physically move and manipulate supplies up to 100 pounds
  • This position requires the ability to work weekends, mandatory overtime, and occasional travel to perform Central Supply Specialist I functions at NEDS satellite offices in ME and CT

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma
  • Must hold a valid state driver's license
