Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager applies knowledge of Nexus and industry HSSE practices, including but not limited to Process Safety Management (PSM), OSHA and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) fundamentals, to support the ongoing safety of the Nexus team and to comply with client requirements. Key objectives of this position include 1) defining regulatory, Nexus and client HSE requirements, 2) develop and implement programs to comply with requirements, 3) identifying the health and safety risks for client assignments and mitigating those risks to an acceptable level, 4) monitor and document compliance 5) educating the Nexus team on process safety, personal safety, and the application of these critical safety measures in the delivery of our work.


Accountabilities
  • Foster and inspire Nexus  team commitment to personal, process and inherently safer design concepts
  • Annually review annually and update, Nexus safety policy guidelines as required
  • Drive & document team compliance with Nexus, client and project policies, testing and training requirements
  • Provide timely updates to OSHA required reports, ISNetworld, Avetta and other applicable data bases
  • Ensure required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), etc. is in stock, ready and available for team
  • Develop and deploy site HSE plans for all clients
  • Identify (with PMs/client input) project HSE requirements and plan including scope, timing and budget
  • Initiate, complete, document and report out Incident Investigations and reports
  • Provide annual input on the monthly Nexus HSE safety training plan 


Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the team on specific to each client site and project special requirements
  • Provide insight to Process Safety Management (incl. MOC, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Process Hazard Analysis, etc.) and ensure action items assigned to Nexus from reviews are closed and documented
  • Accurately capture and apply health and safety Lessons Learned and then help teams apply them to ongoing projects
  • Interface with the Project Leadership Team, client management, stakeholders, support services, and other external parties to facilitate HSSE compliant,  efficient and effective delivery of projects
  • Coordinate third party input for HSSE functions (HAZOP, permitting, FEMPs, etc.)
  • Ensures that required training is provided to staff for job specific tasks (i.e. respirator training, working at heights/harness training)


Experience and Expertise
  • Required: Ten (10) years of experience in an engineering, process safety, and/or health and safety field
  • Preferred: Ten (10)  years of experience in petrochemical/manufacturing setting with training in Process Safety Management and direct Project Management experience
  • Ability to work closely with team of HSSE Advisors to ensure continuous safety support to client sites
  • Analyzing Problems/Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Systematically determine the root cause(s) of problems through questioning and inspecting and then identify the best course of action to take
  • Lead and/or Assist in HAZOPs, MOC’s, Incident Investigations, and Job Safety Analysis
  • Identify risk and recommend appropriate risk mitigation plans
  • Build effective relationships with coworkers to positively affect a culture of safety
  • Effective at public speaking and providing informative training sessions
  • Strong desire to take ownership and drive results
  • Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, engineering or related discipline, or 10 years of equivalent experience
