Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates and monitors Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital (QNHCH) Trauma Program. Develops, implements and maintains a cost-effective system of care for trauma patients and their families throughout the continuum of care at QNHCH.
- Works in collaboration with the Trauma Program Medical Director, QNHCH staff and management, Big Island Trauma Program staff, and Department of Health Trauma Program staff to implement and coordinate trauma program initiatives and maintains compliance with the statewide trauma system regulatory requirements.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
- Continuous: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
- Frequent: walking, sitting, and lifting.
- Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, and carrying usual weight of 1 pound up to 5 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching
- Operates computer, fax machine, copier, multi-line telephone, intercom, printer, video equipment and clinical equipment.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.
- May require work during day and evening shifts.
- Required Personal Protective Equipment: Eye protection; gown; mask; face protection; non-sterile/sterile medical gloves.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Current Hawaii State license as a Registered Nurse.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Current certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN). If not certified upon hire, must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Current BLS/HCP, ACLS, and PALS.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification highly desirable.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- Three (3) nursing experience with assessment expertise, plus one (1) year of specialized nursing experience in Emergency room or ICU.
- Trauma Center experience preferred.
- Prior supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
- Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Ability to problem-solve issues, i.e., process flow, equipment or interpersonal conflict.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
o Ability to accept and implement change.
o Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
o Strong critical thinking, analytical, teaching and research skills.
o Proficient in the use of computers. Ability to use Word and Excel preferred.
