Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Job DescriptionPURPOSE OF THE POSITION:The Staff Nurse in Behavioral Health is a Nursing Practitioner who contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing regimen for assigned patients on his/her unit. Under the direction and leadership of the Head Nurse the Staff Nurse is guided by a thorough knowledge of nursing theory, principles and standards of quality nursing care.Responsibilities(I) Provide Nursing Care to assigned patients through assessment of patient’s needs, making nursing diagnosis, developing and implementing a plan of care, which reflects an individualized mode of nursing intervention.• Initiates a Nursing Assessment and Nursing Care plan upon admission which reflects long and short-range goal, patient teaching and a discharge plan.• Participate in the Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan implementation.• Allows patient and/or significant others. as much as possible to collaborate in plan of care.• Collaborates with the Head Nurse in assigning functions to ancillary personnel.• Records pertinent observations on patient chait and repo1is verbally findings to Head Nurse/Team Leader and/or physician.• Evaluates the results of nursing intervention and makes appropriate changes when necessary.• Administers medication as ordered and chart same according to hospital policy and professional standards.• Count narcotics with in-coming and out-going tour nurses according to hospital policy/procedures.• Check code cart/emergency equipment as assigned.• Perform control code daily and maintain the cleanliness of the glucometer machine.• Counsel and/or instruct patients and/or family with evidence that the patient and/or family understand the instructions given.• Participates in department and interdisciplinary conferences pe1iaining to policies and procedures affecting Nursing practice.• Participates in on going Pl activities and assists with data collection.• Maintains professional competence through participation in Continuing Education, in-service Staff Development and self-defectiveness in his/her own education process.• Assists in coordinating and Discharge Planning monitoring activity for clinical, services.• Conducts medication group, health education group, and co-lead community meeting.• Functions effectively during Code Blue and other medical emergencies.• Carry out physician's orders concerning therapy and medications.• Assists in the supervision of non-professional staff• Ensures a safe and secure environment free of hazards through on-go mg environmental surveillance processes.• Explains, involves and instruct patient/families concerning medication and treatment modalities.• Utilizes the electronic as well as the paper medical record while maintaining patient confidentiality.Minimum Qualifications• A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and• Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).Department PreferencesHow To ApplyIf you wish to apply for this position, please apply online by clicking the "Apply Now" button.NYC Health and Hospitals offers a competitive benefits package that includes:• Comprehensive Health Benefits for employees hired to work 20+ hrs. per week• Retirement Savings and Pension Plans• Loan Forgiveness Programs for eligible employees• Paid Holidays and Vacation in accordance with employees' Collectively bargained contracts• College tuition discounts and professional development opportunities• Multiple employee discounts programs
