Statistical Research Psychologist

Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Statistical Research Psychologist, supporting the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine Aeromedical Operational and Clinical Psychology Division (USAFSAM/FESP).  The role is remote, and supports research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • The contractor employee will assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive study protocol, including hypothesis, methodologies, collection strategies, and overall statistical analysis of study data in consultation with USAFSAM/FESP professional staff.
  • Provides customer leadership a relevant scientific literature review and data analyses, as well as participates in related discussions with USAFSAM/FESP staff.
  • The contractor employee shall confer with and advise USAFSAM/FESP professional staff regarding optimal statistical approaches to analyze study data. The contractor employee shall perform statistical analyses of study data using descriptive and inferential statistical procedures.
  • The contractor employee shall minimize any threats to the validity of the statistical products or online data repositories, as well as maintain the data in a secure fashion consistent with IRB protocol and safeguards. The contractor employee shall maintain confidentiality of screening data, contents of technical reports, and presentation of data deemed sensitive and not releasable to the general public. The contractor employee shall complete the appropriate IRB paperwork and training requirements for conducting research.
  • Prepares reports of scientific/statistical results in support of scientific literature publication, in coordination with USAFSAM/FESP and 711 HPW staff. The number of professional presentations, reports, and papers shall be verified based upon the relevance of research findings, as they become available.
  • The contractor employee can expect to travel, as needed, to provide professional support, customer consultations, and research presentations at line leadership meetings and professional conferences. The contractor employee can work with USAFSAM/FESP personnel regarding personal limitations on travel scheduling. The contractor employee shall maintain communications with project personnel that facilitate teamwork, and adhere to strict confidentiality and classification requirements in all forms of communication.
  • The contractor employee shall be responsible for data management and coordinating processes with project team members, which shall include acquisition, input, maintenance, electronic format products, and storage of all project data. The contractor employee shall assist staff in the collection of assessment data maintenance and downloading into the project database.
  • Provides project operations support, to include assistance with USAFSAM/FES research activities and acquisition of data in support of project goals and objectives.
  • The contractor employee shall arrange, lead, oversee, and participate in research team meetings, (to include leading a weekly meeting) as needed, to ensure effective communication between research team members as related to the achievement of project research goals.
  • If there is an unexpected interruption in research capabilities and/or reduction in workload, the contractor employee(s) shall support research endeavors in support of additional USAFSAM/FESP related investigations, as required.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Ability to obtain NACI

Education: Master’s degree specializing in Research Psychology, ideally in fields of Industrial Organizational, or Applied Social Psychology.

Years of Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in research psychology

 

Technical Skills

  • Proven experience of database development, gathering and organizing data supporting analyses for a wide range of analytical procedures, research report writing, and developing actionable recommendations for improving human performance and behavioral science research.
  • Proven experience developing products presenting research outcomes (e.g., statistical results and interpretations), to include professional presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and/or technical reports.
  • Experience designing and conducting statistical data analysis using software such as JMP, SPSS, R, etc

Interpersonal Skills

  • Communication: Clear and effective presentation of research findings and collaboration with stakeholders.

  • Teamwork: Ability to coordinate and collaborate with research team members to achieve project goals.

  • Leadership: Leading meetings and guiding team members with mentorship and direction.

  • Confidentiality: Ensuring the secure handling of sensitive data and maintaining ethical standards.

  • Relationship Building: Managing customer relationships and engaging with leadership and peers professionally.

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: Active NACI or Secret

Education: Doctoral degree specializing in Research Psychology, ideally in fields of Industrial Organizational, or Applied Social psychology.

 

Preferred Technical Skills 

  • Experience in program evaluation, including designing, implementing, and analyzing data to assess program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience with human performance and behavioral science research within the Department of Defense (DoD).
  • Experience developing and administering comprehensive, validated psychological instruments via mobile and web-based capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting statistical results at peer-reviewed national forums (i.e., Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Association, Aerospace Medicine Association).
  • Experience as an author of publications in peer-reviewed journals or official USAF/DoD technical reports in behavioral science with regards to human performance and behavioral science research.
