Office Assistant I - District Attorney

Summary

Under direct supervision, is responsible for general clerical/secretarial duties; and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Types letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
  • Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT
  • Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages
  • Develops and maintains files
  • Accesses and files information
  • Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
  • Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work
  • Performs related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and one (1) year general office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge of office procedures
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment
  • Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and the general public
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background check investigation and clearance by the Bexar County District Attorney department
  • Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Constantly working in indoor conditions
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
  • Occasionally moves about the office
  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Positions self to perform essential functions
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
