The Regional Operational Risk Manager
(the Manger) allows the business to understand and oversee operational risk by creating a data driven program, which generates insights, assessments and actionable outcomes that become key inputs in business decisions, action plans and risk acceptance.

In the context of second line, specific scope comes in two perspectives. First lens is through fundamental components of operational risk, being systems, processes and people. Secondly, the role will take a closer look into fraud, cyber security, project risk, business continuity, and other emerging non-financial risks. Additionally, the Manager needs a sharp eye for the relevant legislation and regulations and bring them into risk considerations and activities across the full scope of the discipline.

Further, the Manager acts as a sparring partner for the business, is characterized as a senior advisor towards leadership and relevant Business Unit members, provides discipline-specific coaching in the Region and is a recognized expert. This requires the ability to create clarity and structure in the large diversity of strategic, operational and external aspects that influence our business.

The Manager will be based in the United States (with a preference for Wayne, Pennsylvania or Des Moines, Iowa) and will report directly to the US Regional Chief Risk Officer, and secondarily to the Integrated Risk Manager. This reporting line is expected to change, towards the IRM manager after the role and domain is established.


Day to Day

  • Provide powerful functional guidance to the US business
  • Propose a structured approach to understand and oversee operational risks across the US Region, in a holistic and integrated manner
  • Spearhead the Operational Risk Champions network, including (informal) recruitment, training and communications – the network will be your eyes and ears throughout the business
  • Take a leadership role in the Global IRM Community, working closely with Global Head of Operational Risk and Regional peers to ensure both a top down and bottom up approach to establishing best practice, Group policies and standards.
  • Develop a data driven approach to gain deeper insights in to changes in our risk exposures, which will also inform risk acceptance and mitigation action plans
  • Lead operational risk related projects and successfully manage and liaise with all relevant DLL parties including all internal regional and global stakeholders to bring initiatives to success
  • Execute business strategy and maintain risk profile within the risk appetite and risk taking criteria
  • Provide a strategic view and actionable guidance and opinion regarding DLL’s most challenged operational exposures
  • Ensure timely and quality submission of reporting material to relevant local and global Committees
  • Engage in cyber security and business continuity strategy and initiatives, as a second line advisor and sparring partner; similarly engage with business units and Compliance on fraud topics
  • Embrace effective forward-looking risk management by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting on operational risks incurred in business activities
  • Act consistently with the DLL values and supporting policies and standards
  • Take a proactive approach to understanding the impact of internal change and external developments on our existing risk profile, regionally and globally.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, training and coordination for the business
  • Coach Risk members and business partners in reviewing and organizing their own Risk capacity and capabilities for all risk areas as well as specific operational risk areas (cyber, fraud, etc) , in line with the business objectives as well as the COO Risk planning and available budget, in such way that the Global IRM, COO and Region Risk strategy, planning and objectives are achieved.Direct responsibility for coaching the (performance and development) of the junior member(s) of Operational Risk domain
  • Implement supporting systems, models, processes, procedures and deliver training in order to adhere to policies
  • Promote an Integrated Risk Management culture in the United States, including Customer Due Diligence, Treat your Customers Fairly, portfolio management, emerging client risks, climate risk, etc.

Essentials

  • Bachelors degree in relevant domain, e.g. risk management, finance
  • At least 10 years of work experience in an financial services industry or technology
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in Risk Management, audit (or equivalent) as well in managing non-financial risks
  • Experience in process and control environment mapping and management
  • Strong project/program management experience
  • Excellent track record in managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Data and quality driven and results orientated
  • Highly adaptable, proactive and a self-starter
  • Strongly collaborative, displaying excellent ability to build internal and external relationships across a variety of levels, countries, and cultures
  • A natural developer and coach, creating and delivering high quality training across a number of functions and countries

Applicable Pay Range

$88,000 - $132,000

This position is subject to the terms of DLL’s compensation plans and policies. It is anticipated that the position will pay within the applicable pay range. The range is reflective of the desired primary physical work location and may be adjusted outside of the projected range based on geographical differentiation if the actual work location of the hired candidate differs from the desired primary location, or for other lawful reasons. Further, the position includes all other benefits provided to DLL employees, including healthcare benefits, 401k matching, vacation, sick leave, parental leave, possible discretionary bonuses, and all other benefits that are all governed by and subject to ERISA plan documents and eligibility.
