Principal Pilot Development Engineer

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Systems Engineer to lead pilot design and deployment of our first product: the integration of a novel CO2 removal technology within a data center environment. Based out of our laboratory and engineering site just outside Princeton, NJ, this role focuses on the design, procurement, assembly, and on-site and off-site deployment of pilot-scale technology demonstrations. The ideal candidate will combine prior experience building first-of-a-kind systems with deep technical expertise as you guide a multi-disciplinary team through technology development to pilot demonstration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pilot system development of an innovative carbon removal system for on-site testing with our data center partners

  • Lead the design, optimization, and prototyping of core system components that allow for efficient integration of direct air capture with data center systems

  • Develop practical solutions for combined heat and mass transfer challenges within design constraints to achieve an efficient, safe, and reliable technology demonstration

  • Build and lead an engineering team responsible for pilot system design, assembly, and operation

  • Working with cross-functional materials and process engineering teams, provide technical direction on system optimization and future technology development

Skills and Experiences

  • Background in chemical or mechanical engineering with a focus on heat transfer and separation processes

  • 10+ years of hands-on process & chemical technology system development

  • Track record of leading successful pilot-scale or larger technology projects

  • Ability to bridge fundamental science and practical engineering

  • Strong knowledge and experience developing innovative heat exchange and gas separation technologies

  • Background in one or more relevant areas:

    • Structured contactors

    • Continuous bed systems

    • Heat transfer processes

    • Process intensification

    • Gas separation technologies

    • Solid-gas system design

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to thrive in a fast-moving start-up environment
