Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Automation Developer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our quality assurance processes and infrastructure. You will be responsible for automating end-to-end (E2E) tests, contributing to the development of our QA stack, and performing manual testing when necessary.

The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about crafting powerful, efficient and scalable services that will drive better digital financial solutions for millions of Canadians.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance automated E2E test suites.
• Integrate automated tests into our CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid and reliable deployments.
• Contribute to the improvement of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test strategies and acceptance criteria.
• Perform manual testing for new features and critical fixes where automation is not yet established.
• Identify, document, and track bugs to closure.
• Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide clear and concise feedback on product quality and testing progress.
• Participate in initiatives to develop our SRE practices, focusing on system reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Assist in monitoring system health and proactively addressing potential issues.
• Advocate for best practices in testing and quality assurance across the team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a QA role with a strong focus on test automation.
• Experience in automating E2E tests using frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar tools.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in test automation (e.g., JavaScript, Python).
• Experience with CI/CD tools and integrating automated tests into pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
• Solid understanding of manual testing methodologies and when to apply them.
• Ability to perform exploratory testing to uncover edge cases and usability issues.
• Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Experience in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
• Excellent analytical skills with a detail-oriented mindset, and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest or experience in Site Reliability Engineering practices.
• Understanding of system monitoring tools and performance testing.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman).
• Understanding of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform., and with containerization technologies such as Docker.

Other Requirements

• Legal ability to work and reside in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident status)
• Residence in Toronto or Toronto-vicinity with the ability to work a min. of 1 day/week at the Paays (downtown) Toronto office

Compensation

• Competitive salary, plus participation in the Paays Employee Incentive (Options) pool

• The Paays office is located near the corner of Yonge and Adelaide, in downtown Toronto.  Both Queen and King TTC subway stops are within 2 minute walks of the office.  Along with a private office, we enjoy the many amenities of a co-working space, including lounge access, private call phone booths, free coffee, tea and snacks, and regular happy hours.
• This is a hybrid role. Paays believes in finding the right balance the combines collaborative in-person work, with the flexibility to also work from home.
