The Packaging Technician II is responsible for performing inventory counts, monitoring equipment checks, routine bottling, labeling, and packaging processes according to established procedures and work instructions. They must be able to read, understand, and complete all packaging documentation including batch records, standard operating procedures and/or work instructions, and material processing requests. They must possess basic computer and analytical skills. The Packaging Technician II must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, highly diverse, team oriented, work environment.

Learn and understand the basics:

  • Basic packaging process flow, Inventory and supplies management process flow.

  • Basic bottling techniques for all custom materials.

  • Basic packaging processes including bagging and labeling, label inspections.

  • Use of pipette, scale, and other packaging equipment as required.

Support label creation process by learning and operating all labeling equipment:

  • Monitoring Equipment, Inventory bar coding and count process.

  • Routine cleaning of packaging station and processing equipment.

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of manufacturing activities related to product packaging, including but not limited to device history records.

Meet daily/weekly/monthly departmental production objectives efficiently and effectively with a high degree of quality

Abilities/Support :

  • Independently organize individual schedules to meet departmental goals.

  • Ability to follow general instructions on routine tasks and detailed instructions on new tasks.

  • Support the departmental packaging supplies and material management functions including storing, retrieving, staging and reordering supplies/materials as required.

  • Support technical manual and technical data sheet preparation and operate associated equipment to produce printed literature.

  • Support daily shift start up meetings.

  • Ability to lift 20-30 pounds in a safe manner; requesting assistance when appropriate.

  • Understand and input packaging data, as required, in the SAP system and/or other Production Planning/Manufacturing Resource database system(s).

  • Follow all department guidelines and procedures.

Follow BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures:

  • Take responsibility for safety in the immediate work area.

  • Participate in EH&S programs.

  • Notify supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.

  • Participate in safety audits as required and actively engage in daily safety discussions/observations. Abide by all personal protective equipment and product contamination control (i.e. gowning) requirements.

  • Handle hazardous waste as appropriate. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Self-motivated; must have ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient learner with new tasks and methods

  • Attention to detail

  • Work well in team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 6 months experience required

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently

  • Fundamental computer skills

  • Perform basic math calculations

  • Some laboratory and/or pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing and/or bottling/packaging experience preferred.
