TK Elevator is currently seeking an experienced Packing Engineer II in Middleton, TN.
Responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts within the department with research, design, and development of optimal, cost-effective packaging, packaging processes, and packaging methods in accordance with specifications and quality standards using LEAN principles. Under minimal supervision apply comprehensive knowledge of a packaging best practices to large projects. Interface with Product Engineering, Logistics, Operations, Vendors, and Customers to ensure cost effective packaging designs for products while maintaining Safety and Quality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Research, design and develop optimal, cost-effective packaging processes and methods in accordance with specifications and quality standards using LEAN principles.

Support SSQDC and participate in Rapid Improvement Events.

Support Packaging Projects with the Goal of Maximizing Density of
Containers on Trucks with the goal of reducing freight costs. -
Support Packaging Projects with the Goal of Minimizing Packaging Costs
while maintaining Safety and Quality. -
Manage moderate to large capital projects including writing capital requests and installation of new equipment.

Develop and maintain SOPs and Standard Work for assigned packaging operations.

Order tooling and fixtures needed in shipping/receiving department.

Resolve quality issues including field complaints, warranty issues related to shipping damage due to inferior packaging.

Prepare cost estimates for Accounting related to packaging changes.

Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Design specialized packaging to accommodate specific products being shipped.

Do time studies of production activities to develop standard work for
packaging. -
Support right sourcing projects to identify, develop, and design packaging requirements for newly outsourced parts.

Develop and Design returnable dunnage for use between facilities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or Related Field is required.

Three or more years packaging engineering experience in a manufacturing
environment required. -
Demonstrated ability to develop and meet project schedules; along with
contingency plans. -
Demonstrated ability to manage project teams.

Demonstrated effective decision-making skills are required.
-
Demonstrated ability to work well with others required.
-
Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
-
Drive continuous improvement efforts within the department.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
-
Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of high mix/volume manufacturing methods,
procedures and cost-reduction techniques using Lean manufacturing tools:
including 6S, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Pull Systems, Cellular
Manufacturing and Kaizen events. -
Experienced in leading project teams required.

Experience in packaging designs for a manufacturing operation.

Experience with freight and logistics.
