Job Description
THIS IS A TRAINING OPPORUNITY FOR CURRENT BARGINING UNIT EMPLOYEES
Plan and perform a wide variety of painting assignments where standard methods are available.
Qualifications
Must have a strong interest in working in the paint shop, willingness to work cohesively as a team, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, leadership skills, good interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, commitment to excellent customer service.
A valid driver’s license is required; the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles is required.
Job Specific Qualifications
A valid driver’s license is required; must pass SU Driver’s Safety Training, Must be able to operate and work off of a gas powered lift
Responsibilities
At the end of the training program the applicant must be able to provide campus with the following painting services.
Thoroughly prepare surfaces prior to painting.
Paint interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, stairways, woodwork, doors, window frames, floors, etc.
Paint exterior surfaces such as wooden buildings, window frames, cornices, etc.
Strip and refinish furniture.
Mix paint and stains to match.
Physical Requirements
- Standing 65% – 90% of the shift
- Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below the knee throughout the shift
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (50% – 80% of shift)
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso
- Full range of arm movement (extension, twisting, and bending of arm and shoulder, reaching overhead, etc.) (50% – 95%)
- Wrist and finger dexterity sufficient to perform painting functions using brushes, rollers, hand tools, etc.
- Able to handle and operate power tools (e.g. for stripping and preparing surfaces for painting)
- Repetitive arm movement
- Able to climb up and down ladders and work at elevated heights
- Exposure to strong smells, chemicals, dust, etc.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds overhead
- Able to push/pull up to 75 lbs.
- Able to perform all physical functions needed to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions
- Able to climb up into and down from truck cab
Tools/Equipment
Apply all types of painting materials and use appropriate cleaning solvents.
Use brushes, rollers and spray guns
Work from 32 ’ ladders, swinging scaffolds, etc.
