Overview:
Atlantic Health System is seeking a full-time Patient Safety Technician for the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Morristown Medical Center to work varies shift including every other weekend.
Responsibilities:
Essential Function/Responsibilities:

Demonstrates knowledge and insight into a variety of Mental Health disorders.
- Utilizes objective active listening skills with minimal advice giving to patients
- Utilizes a non-judgmental attitude regarding cultural, racial, socioeconomic and diagnostic issues related to the patient’s level of functioning.
- Maintains own boundaries and does not self-disclose to patients.
- Seeks out clinical supervision as needed.
- Assists in total care and ADLs for elderly or confused patients.
- Actively engages in Milieu with patients through stimulating conversations and interactions.
- Utilizes Therapeutic Communication Skills Consistently provides therapeutic 1:1 intervention.
- Initiates and facilitates therapeutic activities and groups. Initiates groups and activities based upon Milieu concepts, population, and cognitive level of functioning of patients.

Maintains a safe environment. Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self, staff, and patients, maintains fall prevention protocol.
- Utilizes standard precautions including, appropriate isolation techniques Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals.
- Demonstrates proper use of alternatives/restraints according to hospital policy.
- Maintains observation sheets accurately and assists patients with activities of daily living, such as toileting, grooming, hygiene Obtains vital signs, glucometer readings and records accurately.
- Maintains standard precautions, demonstrates flexibility in response to changes in unit acuity.

Maintains observations sheets accurately. Assists nurses with admissions, discharges and transfers.
- Accurately and thoroughly checks patient belongings on admission and packages received form visitors for correct distribution to safe, home with family, patient unit bin or storage areas. Clearly documents disposition of items on belongings and valuables sheets.
- Maintains and documents patient rounds.
- Maintains thorough Environmental rounds checks and removes contraband, documents, and reports findings to charge nurse.

Scans environment routinely for potentially unsafe or escalating situations
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Minimum Experience:
-
1-2 years in related field preferred
License/Certification:
-
BLS Certification upon orientation completion.
