Job Summary: Courteously greets patients/visitors, providing service to all hospital departments by performing necessary transportation of patients, supplies, equipment, and other materials to required destinations. Assists with training functions.
Education: No requirements.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None. CPR preferred.
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have normal hearing and speaking abilities to understand and follow directions. Must possess interpersonal skills to courteously and effectively train departmental personnel. Must comprehend, test, and retain material given in the following in-services: Body Substance Isolation, Back Safety, Oxygen Training, IV Training, and Safe Care Training.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Transport patients to and from designated areas as required. Communicates any transport delays or concerns; maintains continuous contact with dispatch. Transports equipment, supplies, and other materials while following all safety procedures. Assists in lifting, turning, and transferring patients to/from the bed, chair, stretcher, and/or other applicable transport equipment. Assists the public with general information regarding Saint Francis Hospital and the professional buildings on campus and directs visitors to patient’s rooms, waiting areas or dining areas. Cleans transport equipment as required, including changing linens and reports any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Remains alert for and reports any unusual circumstances observed on transport assignments to the dispatcher, so Security can be notified to investigate. Attends all required in-services and CPR recertification as needed and ensures compliance with all standards of body substance isolation, infection control and hazardous material. Greets patients promptly and courteously, transporting the patients’ luggage to the Admitting Office as needed.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
