Payroll Associate
Status: Non-exempt (Hourly)
Department: Finance/Accounting
Position Summary
The Payroll Associate is a critical member of the payroll team within the Financial Shared Services function. This individual will provide support in all areas of processing payroll and will interface on a regular basis with other departments including but not limited to Human Resources and Finance. The ideal candidate should exhibit exceptional customer service skills, a positive attitude, and a strong attention to detail. The successful candidate should exhibit a service-oriented approach, have abilities to process a high volume of transactional responsibilities, and take pride in the accuracy and thoroughness of their work. The Payroll Associate will also be expected to interact professionally in all interactions.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all transactional functions to process payroll via Workday on a weekly basis for employees in multiple states with the utmost focus on timeliness and processing accuracy, including stock related compensation
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll data, including employee information, wages, and deductions including the appropriate processing of liens, garnishments, and other payroll-related transactions
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll always representing Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions
  • Build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships within the organization
  • Engage with cross-functional partners proactively in completion of job responsibilities
  • Communicate payroll-related updates to the organization in a clear and effective manner
  • Approach all work activities with a customer service focus being mindful of payroll as a service department in support of the organization
  • Achieve and maintain a thorough understanding of company payroll processing software (Workday) and related functionality
  • Evaluate work processes on an ongoing basis; seek efficiencies and make appropriate suggestions for process improvement
  • Exhibit care, solid judgment and discretion with the sensitive nature of payroll and personal data.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing
  • Assist with special projects and ad-hoc reporting as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • High school or equivalent required; associates or bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or human resources preferred
  • At least one year of experience in payroll processing
  • Workday experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and regulations
  • Approach all work activities with a customer service focus
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel (VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, SUMIFS), and Outlook
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Uncompromising dedication to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
  • Excellent follow-through
  • Must be driven and self-motivated
Pay Rate:
$25.94 - $37.41
