Payroll Tax Research Solutions Analyst IV - Remote

Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The candidate will be responsible for providing technical and analytical research supporting Vertex US and Canada Payroll tax products. In addition to performing primary research on changing payroll tax legislation, the candidate will help design, implement, and maintain various internal tools and other processes to enhance the productivity of the tax research team to meet customer or industry specific needs. The candidate should have a passion for technology and be comfortable working with our Development, Testing and Product Management teams.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Research, define, and interpret tax rules impacting the maintenance of existing payroll tax content or for the addition of new content for Vertex payroll products.
  • Structure and test complex tax content within the Vertex payroll products in a logical manner that is consistent with system architecture and platforms.
  • Leverage technology to support the implementation and testing of changes to Vertex payroll products.
  • Lead complex projects and participate as a team member on projects.
  • Assist and contribute to the development and evaluation of content requirement documents and programming code for new and modified payroll tax functionality.
  • Understand and resolve complex customer issues.
  • Lead or participate in other operational and strategic projects or duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Ability to work comfortably with our Development, Testing, and Product Management teams.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with external customers and governmental tax authorities.
  • Ability to work effectively without supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to co-present at product demonstrations, seminars, panels, and webcasts.
  • Ability to respect diversity within the work environment.
  • Developing capability to coach, mentor, teach, develop, and train fellow associates.
  • Developing capability to be a SME in our payroll tax products.
EDUCATION, TRAINING:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a similar business discipline.
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications are a plus. Equivalent experience may substitute for some portion of the education requirement.
  • 8+ years of experience in the tax/technology industry. 3+ years in a multi-jurisdictional payroll tax environment is desirable. Canada experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in either developing, implementing, or maintaining payroll information systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package is desirable.
  • Experience with XML, SQL, or JSON is desirable.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Agile development approaches and techniques is desirable.
