WindBorne Systems is supercharging weather models with a unique proprietary data source: constellations of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We then combine that unique data source with the world’s most accurate AI weather models. Our long-term vision is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. The founding team of Stanford engineers was named Forbes 2019 30 under 30 and is backed by top investors including Khosla Ventures.
WindBorne is looking for a Fullstack Web Developer to help build our mission control suite and forecast viewer. Our mission control analyzes and displays telemetry from our constellation of balloons around the world, as well as providing a range of tools for tracking manufacturing and planning launches. In the near future, we'll have thousands of balloons aloft at once, and improving our tools is critical to enabling that.
Responsibilities:
Expanding and maintaining our mission control suite with an eye towards constellation growth and more tightly integrating our forecasts. While our existing system is powerful, it’s focused on running through the status of individual balloons: when we have 10,000 balloons aloft at any time, that will no longer work. You’ll work with the co-founder who wrote it and will additionally take regular shifts doing flight control to get a feel for needs in the real world. Additionally, while this role is largely focused on an internal product, you may also be tagged in to support the development of the external one.
Skills and Qualifications:
Ruby on Rails and React. We want a full-stack web developer who’s excited about understanding the flow of data through a complex system: balloon to satellite to server to the browser and back again. You’ll thrive if you’re into fun ideas about how to keep a high development velocity without sacrificing performance (we may severely abuse the browser’s Cache API, for example). The majority of the code is Rails and React, though you may touch systems written in languages like C (eg native extensions), Rust (some services + some WASM), and WebGL. Beyond technical skills, you should be excited about working at a scrappy startup with a lot of independence.
Benefits:
401(k)
Dental insurance
Health insurance
Vision insurance
Unlimited PTO
Stock Option Plan
Office food and beverages
Salary:
$100k-$200k
Location:
Address: 858 San Antonio Rd, Palo Alto, CA.
In-person strongly preferred.
