SUMMER LEGAL INTERNJob SummaryPearson is seeking a summer legal intern who will report directly to an experienced attorney within Pearson’s Legal department. This paid role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical corporate legal experience and learn about the commercial transactions, intellectual property issues, data privacy concerns, and other areas of law encountered by Pearson’s in-house legal counsel. Over the course of six weeks, the summer legal intern will receive mentorship and feedback, attend company town hall presentations and other informational meetings, and meet with senior leaders within Pearson’s legal department. By the end of the summer, our legal intern will have a better understanding of the role of an in-house corporate attorney, a working familiarity with the education services industry, and transferable skills useful for a future corporate or private practice role.Key Responsibilities• Assist with corporate transactional matters, such as contracts to secure vendors for the company and contracts to secure customers for the company.• Research state and federal law or other requested topics.• Provide support on other special projects, as needed, which may include:• responding to regulatory requests• assisting with litigation• researching novel data privacy issues• working on federal contracts• supporting employment law matters• reviewing and revising internal policiesSkills And Knowledge• Strong research and analysis skills; advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and WestLaw/LexisNexis• Organized, able to manage multiple concurrent assignments, and conscious of deadlines and confidentiality requirements• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively respond to conflicts and negotiation positions• Flexibility to understand and respond to the individual needs and circumstances of the companyRequirements• The summer legal intern is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work mostly remote.
