Pearson Virtual Schools is looking for a motivated Senior User Experience Designer to creatively solve problems using the latest design methodologies. We are looking for candidates who are excited to approach challenges in innovative ways, always considering the various aspects of the resulting user experience. This individual is expected to contribute to the organization through user research, information architecture, interaction design, brand alignment, visual design, and light front-end development. Candidates should be well versed in usability best practices, Design Thinking, UX design software (e.g., Figma or Sketch), user research, and understand modern web technologies. Working remotely, the Pearson Virtual Schools User Experience (UX) Design team partners closely with Product Management to translate a product vision into a perceivable experience with design artifacts such as mockups and prototypes within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment. The design team uses a variety of... research methods to ensure design decisions are customer-centric and backed by supporting data. The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $95,000 to $135,000 and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan Job Responsibilities The Senior UX Designer's responsibilities will include Working closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, Software Engineers, and fellow designers to define the user experience for web applications based on technical constraints and business objectives; responsible for identifying navigation paradigms, workflows, and page layouts, ensuring that designs have a consistent look & feel and follow best practices; creating and following product design and UI guidelines, gauging the usability of new and existing products; represent the needs of the user throughout design and development; balancing business needs, user experience, and technical feasibility; carrying projects from initial concept to launch; providing design expertise to brainstorming sessions among fellow designers, engineers, product experts, and other team members; advise the business about user interface design and usability best practices, trends, and other UX design standards while making recommendations that best support the achievement of business objectives; accomplishes department and organization missions by completing related tasks as needed and assigned; and other duties as assigned. Requirements The UX designer will be working with a team of UX designers, product owners, software engineers, marketing professionals, and other business stakeholders and must have 6
years' experience serving as a UX designer (or equivalent design position); Bachelor's' Degree in human factors, web design, information architecture, human-computer interaction, graphic design, or related is preferred, but we will consider candidates with equivalent work experience and strong portfolio of work; experience in prototyping, mockup and information/page flow tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure, or similar tools; light experience working with HTML 5 and CSS (SCSS, LESS, etc.); an understanding of web technology and current trends; ability to communicate with product managers, developers, testers, executive stakeholders, educators, customers and end-users in a manner that helps continuously enhance the overall usability of Pearson products; ability to reconcile key stakeholder interests, conflicting priorities, and business strategy; an understanding of how to apply Design Thinking techniques and principles to ensure a collaborative and objective-oriented design process; graphic design skills/knowledge; and experience with usability analysis & discovery such as:
metric analysis (e.g., Google Analytics), end-user interviews, usability tests, and competitive analysis. Other required professional and soft skills include Good time management skills; an extremely detail-oriented work ethic; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to demonstrate work experience by providing work samples. An ideal candidate will also have experience working with JavaScript and related frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular, etc. understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1; experience working with Agile software development, experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is preferred; experience working in the education field.
