JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Purpose
Support the County 4-H team in providing high quality positive youth development program experiences for existing as well as new youth audiences. The 4-H Summer Assistant will be responsible to the 4-H Educator.
Job Expectations
• Plan, implement and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, and projects for youth at local, area and state 4-H events, including day camps and overnight camps.
• Monitor children and be responsible for the whereabouts, supervision, and safety of all children registered for the program.
• Participate in regional or state events as appropriate.
• Serve as a member of the 4-H staff team providing support for summer 4-H educational programs, camps, contests, and fundraisers. This includes recording registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops and assisting with the management of shows and contests.
• Write news releases, social media posts and assist with general marketing to increase public awareness and participation.
• Assist with survey data entry as needed.
• Work cooperatively with other staff in planning and conducting programs, activities and other special events.
• Assist the Educator in reaching new and inclusive audiences in accordance with Penn State University Affirmative Action Policy.
• Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement by due date.
• Establish and maintain summer files.
• Complete end of summer reports of time, contacts and impact reports.
• Observe the operation of a Penn State Extension Office and gain an understanding of this youth development career.

Qualifications
Position requires excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs. Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults. The candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.
Preference will be given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or other related fields. Previous experience with the 4-H program is preferred.
This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances:
• PA State Police Criminal Background Check
• PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
• FBI Criminal Background Check
This position requires the applicant to operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.
