This part-time, flex position is part of the Performing Arts Center within the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for ensuring the success of show and event productions by performing the technical aspects related to the show’s production. This position will support a safe and professional performance environment to all members of the community, including students, faculty, staff, and patrons, while furthering the goals of the Blair School of Music and maintaining and preserving the physical integrity of the performance venues. Stagehands may have one or many of the following specialties: Lighting, Audio, Video & Projection, Run Crew, and/or Carpentry. This hourly position will assist the Blair School of Music based on scheduling and program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting with the assembling, disassembling, and maintenance of stages and equipment during events and productions.
- Load and unload materials from trucks.
- Construction and paint or assemble and disassemble set pieces.
- Set up lighting, props, audio, and video equipment.
- Unpack, set up, and repack road cases.
- Act as operator for lighting, audio, or video systems.
- Set up risers, chairs, music stands and related equipment, including moving pianos.
- Assist with troubleshooting video, audio, lighting, deck, and other issues that may arise.
- Live stage moves including but not limited to set pieces, chairs, music stands, and pianos.
- Hang and focus lighting instruments under the direction of the Lighting Supervisor.
- Assist with maintenance of Blair equipment and systems.
- Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma is preferred .
Experience and Skills :
- Awareness of general theatrical safety practices is necessary .
- Ability to collaborate with other crew members is necessary .
- Strong communication skills are necessary .
- Knowledge of theatrical lighting systems including ETC Ion console is preferred .
- Knowledge of theatrical audio mixing and recording is preferred .
- Knowledge of live streaming and video recording including live streaming and camera framing is preferred .
- Operating knowledge of a counterweight fly system is preferred .
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to bend at the waist and lift items up to 50 lbs. to waist level is necessary .
- Ability to move items up to 50 lbs. for distances of 25+ feet is necessary .
- Ability to remain standing and active for an 8–12-hour shift is necessary .
- Indoor activity with prolonged exposure to windowless work area is necessary .
- Frequent exposure to low light conditions is necessary .
- Comfortable working at heights is preferred .
