Job Description

JOB DIMENSIONS:

The Petrophysicist, under the lead of the senior petrophysicist, is actively involved in interpretation of all type of well data. He/She will provide support to all EXPLO teams within the HUB AME but also to other entities if needed (such as other local subsidiaries in the region, Asset team in TEPUSA etc…)

Perimeter: all the Total group E&P Assets in the AMERICAS (operated , OBO and NV)
Reporting line: She/he reports to the EXPLO AME Subsurface Geological Operations Manager (N+1)

Within the perimeter here-above defined, the job holder is responsible for performing the following tasks under the lead of the senior petrophysicist:
  • Well Data interpretation:
    • Well log quantitative interpretation,
    • Gas While Drilling (GWD), NMR, petro-elastic
    • Pressure Data Validation / Interpretation
    • Reconcile core and log measurements.
    • Upon training perform Petrophysical synthesis (petrophysical groups, Sw laws, petrophysical logs, facies & permeability modelling)
  • Well operations preparation and follow up
    • Provide expertise and advise on the design of Formation evaluation programs at 3W & WSOR stages
    • Participate in the follow up of Explo and delineation wells operations
    • Responsible for post well data interpretations and reports
ACTIVITIES:
The Petrophysicist will be providing petrophysical support to exploration and appraisal activities in different countries in the region on both operated and non-operated wells, provide support to the Exploration Assets, DRO, NV teams in the hub AME as well as local subsidiaries. Under the lead of the Senior Petrophysicists, the Petrophysicist will be actively involved in the interpretation of all well data type while drilling and post well. The Petrophysicist will also provide expertise advise on data acquisition program during the 3W and WSOR stage ensuring a cost-effective well program.

Studies:
  • Perform Real Time and Rush Well log evaluations to assist in well operations
  • Perform the appropriate well log data quality control (QC) & validation
  • Perform and/or validate the tools environmental corrections as well as data depth control & depth match
  • Issue required simple and detailed log composites as per Total’s best practices.
  • Ensure, perform and validate the formation petrophysical properties (NTG, mineralogy, PHI, Sw, Kperm…), fluid content (Oil, Gas, Water…) facies interpretation (Electro-Facies) & formation petrophysical synthesis (Sw laws from Pc, Petrophysical groups & logs, permeability modeling…)
  • Calibration of the reservoirs petrophysical properties & their fluid content using the available well data, ensure all well data has been properly integrated.
  • Ensure and/or perform Gas While Drilling analysis (GWD). Ensure the fluid synthesis integrating Fluid samples characterization and pressure data
  • Ensure a consistent reconciliation between core measurements & log data interpretation (VCL, Mineralogy, PHI, RhoG, Kperm)
  • Provide best in class petrophysical studies for Explo and/or DRO teams
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Promote the FE speciality knowledge (Data QC, quantitative interpretation, GWD, petrophysical & geological synthesis)
  • Support less experience staff in the Exploration Hub or Local entities in Americas
  • Enforce and promote guide lines & rules from Group referential
  • Provide support for teaching dedicated trainings for HUB personnel in addition to Corporate FE trainings.
  • Help in the training program evolution for less experienced collaborators

CONTEXT & ENVIRONMENT:
  • Petrophysics activity, part of the Geology discipline, is transverse & independent to all Assets / Districts / other Geosciences entities within region.
Critical axes:
  • Assuring quality and consistency of petrophysical studies at all stages of the exploration process (from New venture to asset maturation, Well operations and DRO opportunities evaluation)
  • Perform all petrophysical studies as per recommended Group / State of the art practices.

Candidate profile

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Active Contributor on petrophysical well data interpretation & petrophysical data synthesis for local needs; Exploration, reservoir development, reserves estimation…
  • Specialty development & visibility
  • Contribute to the capitalization of the patrimonial GROUP data as well as the company Know-How

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Level/Diploma/background : Engineer, equivalent or higher in geology or reservoir enginery, Msc, PhD
  • Professional experience (in years) : 5-15 years
  • Ability to analyze and summarize large sets of data.
  • Working knowledge of log interpretation tools: Geolog or other etc.
  • Good understanding of the EXPLO and EP processes. Strong ability to work in a cross functional environment.
  • Excellent communication skills : oral & written – (English mandatory), (French, Spanish & Portuguese highly appreciated)
