The Aurora Pharmacy Intern Program is designed to offer pharmacy students a variety of challenging clinical experiences over the course of their pharmacy school training.
Pharmacy students can join the Intern Program in their first year of pharmacy school and take on additional levels of clinical responsibility as they progress through school. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in the classroom, develop clinical skills, and enhance project management, time management, and leadership skills.
As an Aurora Pharmacy intern, you will interact with our team comprised of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns, and clinical pharmacists. Our team is very proud of the high quality care that we provide for patients.
We are excited to train you in our many clinical services – including comprehensive medication reviews, focused device teaching, use of collaborative practice agreements, immunization administration, naloxone dispensing, and discharge prescription delivery (where applicable) – to name a few!
As an Intern I, you may be responsible for the following under the direct supervision of a pharmacist:
Entering prescription orders into the integrated electronic medical record
Preparing medications for dispensing
Dispensing refill prescriptions to patients
Providing patients with their prescriptions in our pharmacies or delivering their medications via curbside delivery
Performing duties related to medication ordering, stocking, and inventory control
Assisting the pharmacist by performing a variety of distribution, technical, and clerical duties
Following successful completion of your second year of pharmacy school, you will transition to the Intern II role. As an Intern II you may be responsible for the following under the direction supervision of a pharmacist:
Entering prescription orders into the integrated electronic medical record
Completing medication profile clinical reviews and final product verification
Dispensing new and refill prescriptions to patients and providing consultation
Providing clinical services such as comprehensive medication reviews, focused device teaching, immunization administration, and naloxone dispensing
Interacting with providers and other members of the health care team to answer medication questions and resolve transition of care issues
Assisting patients and their caregivers in obtaining over-the-counter medications
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
None Required.
Education Required:
Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Pharmacy.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
Frequent fine motor motion of hands and wrists to operate keyboard and manipulate syringes.
Will be frequently required to lift up to 20 lbs.
Will occasionally be required to lift up to 75 lbs.
Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb and reach above shoulders.
Must have functional speech, vision, touch and hearing.
Will be exposed to chemical hazards.
