Job Summary:
As Software Engineer you will be at the forefront developing new propulsion capabilities to provide breakthrough mobility and maneuverability to a multitude of missions. You will be responsible for the technical software efforts of one or more development programs, and a successful candidate for this role will demonstrate exceptional leadership, integrity, empathy, technical acumen, and a strong work ethic to support the team. This role requires candidate to be on-site at our Hawthorne, CA, location.
Core Responsibilities:
- Able to act as a developer capable of furthering the company’s full tech stack;
- Able to produce and work on production automation software for flight hardware ATP, TVac environmental testing, result database curation, and related activities.
- R&D automation software for refinement and discovery of next generation EP engines.
- GSE and hardware driver development and maintenance, including vacuum chambers, thrust stands, DAQ robotics, and other equipment.
- Propulsion engine flight software development and testing;
- Own projects through the full life cycle from requirements through post-delivery;
- Serve as the technical interface with internal (management, operations, product development teams) and external stakeholders (customers, subcontractors) when necessary;
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills:
- At least 3 years professional experience writing software in Python, C, or similar language
- Demonstrative experience automating supplies, cDAQ, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment
- Demonstrative experience with embedded systems and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, Ethernet, CAN
- Track record of success in a rapidly growing, changing and highly technical environment
- Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipeline development
- Demonstrated track record of success in a rapidly growing, changing and highly technical environment
Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
- Bachelors Degree in STEM related discipline
- Strong Python, C/C++, CI/CD pipeline skills
- Experience developing safety-critical software
- Working with time series databases
- Familiarity with control systems
- DevOps and related tooling experience
- Knowledge of a front-end framework
- Agile Software Methodology, Linux and Windows cross-platform development methods and best practices
Salary Range:
- $145,000.00-$165,000.00 Annually

- Phone Interview with our Recruiting Team - 15-30 minutes - Where we learn about you, your experience, and what you're looking for in a new role, as well as give you a chance to learn about us, the role, and any questions you may have. If progressing to next step;
- Video Interview with the Hiring Manager - 30 minutes - This interview reviews the technical aspects of the role as well as your technical background. This is a great time for both you and the hiring manager to get more in depth about the expectations and technical mindset needed for the role. If progressing to next step;
- In-Person Interview - 90-120 minutes - Join us for an in-person interview at our office. During this time, you'll get to meet our team, tour our facility, and see what we do at Phase Four! If progressing to next step;
