How is This Role Important to Our Work?
Livio Health provides in-home care to our areas most vulnerable patients bringing medical, social and emotional support to patients with chronic and serious illness who may otherwise fall through the cracks of traditional healthcare. The Phlebotomist position is a key role supporting patients in their homes. As a valued member of our care team, you will work with Advanced Practice providers, RNs, Social Workers, Medical Assistants, and other support personnel to care for these patients.
A phlebotomist is more than someone who only collects blood samples. A great phlebotomist is often the most trusted person on the care team. Patients share what is going on in their lives with them, and this information is helpful in making sure the care they receive is personal. Because of this, we utilize our phlebotomists to draw blood, but we also ask them to engage patients and their families is ways that build true, trusting relationships.
A Day in the Life:
  • Travels to patient homes to conduct job duties and reports to the office for certain office-based responsibilities.
  • Shares important information about patients’ life events with the care team.
  • Measures and records patient vital signs and updates medical history as needed.
  • Acts as the “eyes and ears,” for the team, picking up on cues in the home that suggest that a patient’s condition is worsening.
  • Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens.
  • Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures; uses CPR skills, when necessary, all under clinician supervision and with clear orders.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safety standards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families facing serious health and social challenges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
