Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Regional Director of Gift Planning. This position reports to the Director & Gift Planning Advisor on the Gift Planning team in the Development division of PPFA. The Gift Planning team expands philanthropic revenue for Planned Parenthood by working with donors and their advisors on bequest intents, estate planning, life income gifts (including charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, and a pooled income fund) as well as special ways of giving (including beneficiary designations, IRA giving, and endowments).

Purpose:

The role of the Regional Director is to tailor one-to-one work with donors for soliciting and securing new gift commitments for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Action Fund, and the Collaborative Fundraising Program.  This individual will establish and maintain relationships with a portfolio of assigned donors at different stages of the Estate Planning Cycle by adapting protocols and applying knowledge, resulting in both immediate and future revenue commitments.  The Regional Director also implements customized individual donor engagement to ensure that commitments for ultimate gifts are continually reaffirmed and retained for the life of the donor.

Delivery:

Solicit and confirm new bequest intent and special gift commitments for Planned Parenthood by engaging with donors in a timely manner in personal meetings, by telephone, and in writing.

Adapt and customize materials to inspire action and answer donor questions and concerns.

Partner with internal colleagues, advisors, and financial institutions as needed to complete gift arrangements.

Apply a systematic focus to portfolio assessment and demonstrate discernment on specific strategy toward heightened commitments for day-to-day donor work and donor travel preparations.

Reassess donor ratings and ensure that individually personalized stewardship is optimally focused to retain commitments and minimize the risk of unfulfilled final gifts.

Plan and arrange visits with donors and prospects throughout the region to solicit new and increased gifts and to reconfirm commitments.

Using PPFA resources wisely, devise a travel schedule so that assigned donors are offered a visit within every two-and-a-half-year cycle and prospects for conversion and solicitation are emphasized.

Submit complete and timely visit reports, thank you notes, and expense reports.

Arrange affiliate visits and coordinate visits of shared gift planning donors in conjunction with donor travel.

Advise local staff on developing their gift planning programs.

Partner with both national and local staff on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Work to meet individual metrics and shared departmental goals, measured by inquiry-to-gift conversion, active gifts-in-play, donor visits, and stewardship steps.

Represent Planned Parenthood ethically while considering each donor situation.

Commit to professional development by building technical expertise through reading, research, education, and professional certifications focused on gift planning.

Build knowledge on a range of topics (including internal policies, investments, federal tax changes, etc.), thereby strengthening the ability to work with donors and their advisors.

Engagement:

Engage donors to build long-lasting relationships using expert listening skills, empathy, and maturity, especially when discussing estate and end-of-life planning decisions.

Convince donors and prospects to meet in person and influence their progress in moving forward with estate plans.

Train affiliate staff on available gift planning services and recommend steps for starting, resuming, or advancing programs.

Advise affiliate major gift officers on gift planning strategies and collaborate on shared donors and prospects.

Build collegial internal relationships, especially with peers on the regional directors team to share strategies and successes, while overcoming challenges and obstacles.

Commit to gift planning professional development with peers in our local professional association to build capacity for engaging with donors and the Director, Senior Director, and Vice President on unusual gift opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

At least 5 years of experience in planned giving, major gifts, and/or annual giving is required.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, Master’s degree is preferred.

Capacity to advance knowledge and a professional interest in the legal, financial, and ethical aspects of gift planning and charitable giving (Note that gift planning training will be provided if experience is primarily major or annual giving.)

High proficiency in Google products, donor databases, and the ability to learn planned giving software, including PG Manager

Extremely organized and process-oriented, using established protocols and procedures to achieve individual engagement and solicitation metrics toward shared team and departmental goals

Flexibility and ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities and ambiguous situations

Commitment to PPFA’s mission and diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly surrounding race equity

A deep commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission of promoting sexual and reproductive health

Travel: 15-20%. This position requires overnight domestic travel within an assigned region, for up to eight trips per year.  Candidates must have good driving skills, a current Driver’s License, and a clear driving record.

Work Hours:  Additional hours may be required during peak periods.  At the end of the fiscal year and the end of the calendar year during the holiday season, team members are required to monitor telephone calls and emails to facilitate year-end giving, and they may be assigned to provide office coverage on a rotating basis.
