I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for visitors, patients, and employees. Monitors environment to detect potential hazards, notifies appropriate personnel and takes corrective action. Primarily remains on standby in the Emergency Room to deter and/or prevent acts of violence. Provides assistance and services to public and employees according to established procedures.
II. Employment Qualifications
Must have certified completion of an approved police-training academy and be a swornlaw enforcement officer with police powers in the county.
Must have completed Crisis Intervention Training within 6 months of employment.Ill. Essential Job Functions
Unless responding to an emergency, or their presence is requested in other areas of the hospital, remains on standby in the Emergency Room. In accordance with established procedures, provides documentation of activities. Takes corrective and/or immediate action to prevent harm or injury to the public and employees when appropriate. Completes written reports of any serious incidents or unusual circumstances encountered while on duty. Enforces local and state criminal laws and acts in accordance with hospital policies as they relate to Security. Projects a positive attitude of service to the Hospital and maintains public relations withemployees, patients, and visitors
Operates communications equipment in keeping with assigned duties. Responds to non-emergency situations when the presence of a Police Officer is requested inother areas of the hospital.
Responds to any emergency incident such as, fires, ATLAS, and duress situations. Promotes security awareness among staff whenever possible. Demonstrates ability to access various areas of the Hospital, MOB, and Hospital grounds. Demonstrates the ability to exert a high level of physical effort in order to restrain and holdviolent/combative persons. Requires visual acuity and proficient hearing in order to react and respond quickly and appropriately to overhead pages, radio calls, and a variety of emergency situations.
Completes online training classes (i.e HIPAA etc.) identified as mandatory training by the hospital or health system.IV. Working Conditions
May occasionally be exposed to hazards and hazardous situations, but potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed. The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.V. Office Equipment Used
Will be required to use a telephone, computer, and a walkie-talkie type radio.
