The Coverage team develops and advances the firm’s go-to-market (GTM) strategy. Our GTM strategy is centered around covering multiple stakeholders and client groups, including private equity firms, and offering them a full suite of situational capabilities and lifecycle solutions across the entire investment horizon, including TAS, TES, OCFO, PI, IM, IB and TRS. The team coordinates closely with Practice Line Leaders and our Marketing and Data Analytics teams to develop and nurture relationships, identify and present opportunities, assist in the preparation and delivery of curated content and assemble the right advisory team to win and ultimately deliver positive outcomes for our clients. As Portage Point continues to take market share as the leading cross-functional, middle market platform, Coverage will play a growing and key role.

 

The Sponsor Coverage Managing Director at Portage Point represents a unique opportunity for a highly motivated professional to make a significant impact in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This individual will be based in our New York office and be an integral part of the Coverage team, acting as the relationship manager for twenty to fifty financial sponsors at any given time. The Sponsor Coverage Managing Director will report directly to the CEO and provide consistent coverage to key sponsors, build and enhance sponsor relationships and support selling the full suite of situational capabilities and lifecycle solutions offered by Portage Point. The ideal candidate will have a deep network of private equity relationships in and around the New York City area and the ability to identify opportunities across various industries and practice lines. The Sponsor Coverage Managing Director should be prepared to work within a small, collaborative team environment. 


Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with industry and functional experts across the various practice lines and in coordination with the broader Coverage team to secure new business and drive revenue growth
  • Identify, lead and manage new and existing relationships with middle market focused private equity firms
  • Partner with junior Coverage team members, Marketing and Data Analytics teams to develop content and collateral that enables proactive account management and cross-selling
  • Stay up to date on market trends, regulatory developments and industry news and circulate information to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide professional development coaching to junior team members as needed
  • Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
  • Support talent acquisition and firm development efforts as needed
  • Contribute to creating a high-performing and inclusive culture


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
  • Located in New York
  • Invested in a team-based culture motivated to collaborate in office four days per week and willing to travel as needed 
  • 10 plus years of experience in financial sponsor coverage, investment banking or a similar financial advisory role
  • Proven track record of originating opportunities from middle market Sponsors
  • Extensive network within the private equity community and demonstrated success in developing and nurturing relationships
  • Deep knowledge in private equity landscape, investment strategies and market influences
  • Analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to assess opportunities based on market trends
  • Ability to successfully work in a small, collaborative team environment
  • High degree of maturity with a proven ability to interact with senior executives and private equity Sponsors
  • Effectively communicates analysis through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
  • Responsive at all times
  • Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong e-mail etiquette
  • Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit


$300,000 - $1,200,000 a year
The City of New York and the State of California require Portage Point to provide compensation information for this role. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
