Power Electronics Packaging Engineer

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with 6 to 20+ years of experience within Power Electronics Packaging and looking for the next step to grow your career? The Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) business is experiencing unprecedented growth. Our new state of the art development center in Austin, Texas is the home for our next generation technical solutions. Engineers will develop flight and mission-critical products for more than 170 commercial and military customers. You will have the opportunity to help design and develop the next generation: Fly-By-Wire Flight Controls, Aircraft Engine Controls, Ground Vehicle Power Management Systems, Aircraft Electrification Systems, Advanced Air Mobility Systems, Autonomous Flight Systems, Flight Deck Systems, Cabin Management Systems, Weapon Control Systems, and Mission Systems for the world's most prominent commercial and military aircraft and vehicle manufacturers.

Candidates for this position can expect to work in mid-size teams that are cooperative, dependable, and supportive, working both co-located in a hybrid environment and geographically distributed. These roles involve a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work and will take the form of a hybrid work schedule, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Typical duties include (based on experience):

  • Apply expertise in the area of mechanical design of Electronics Packaging towards design of electronics enclosures and/or CCA’s, for commercial and military aircraft applications.
  • Mechanical design, development and selection of hardware components for electrical assemblies utilizing fundamental mechanical engineering principles, theories and techniques.
  • Perform design of high reliability electronics package enclosures, utilizing 3D CAD tools such as Creo Parametric or similar tools.
  • Design to meet environmental and reliability requirements typically encountered on military and commercial aircraft programs.
  • Design for producibility, partnering with the Manufacturing Engineer to drive a producible and cost efficient design in the production environment.
  • Drive design improvements with an understanding of Structural and Thermal Analysis (boundary conditions/results)
  • Develop test plans in support of Qualification, Accelerated Life testing, Stress Screening, Reliability growth, as well as Design Verification.
  • Use familiarity with High Power / High Voltage to implement proper design considerations

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
The following education, skills and experiences are required in order to be considered for the role.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and minimum of 6 years work experience or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work effectively on a team either on-site or remotely. Opportunity is Hybrid.
  • Willingness to perform a wide variety of related task
  • Working knowledge of drawing and configuration management practices.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
The below experiences and skills are preferred but NOT required to be qualified for this position. This position is open for a range of career levels and BAE Systems will work with candidates to find a role that best aligns to their experiences.

  • Familiarity with military and/or commercial standards
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a small team in the solution of open ended problems.
  • Proven ability to coach and teach others in the organization.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $111,000.00 - $189,000.00 per year
