Default Servicing at Valon

The Default Servicing team manages all default-related processes and resolves mortgage loans that are in default. The team is crucial to Valon and the broader mortgage ecosystem, as it helps prevent foreclosures and minimize losses for investors. Homeowner transparency and financial literacy is always focal point to our people, process, and product and we strive to help homeowners who need additional support to keep their dream of homeownership alive.

About the Role

The Pre-Foreclosure Team Manager will be responsible for leading a team of Pre-Foreclosure Specialists who are responsible for managing all back office pre-foreclosure activities on delinquent loans, including but not limited to adequate mailing and record keeping of default notices required by the state and the loan documents to meet conditions precedent, pre-foreclosure referral reviews and foreclosure referrals, among other items assigned as-needed.

This position interfaces with all areas of servicing and is responsible for key initiatives around operational efficiencies and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate is a strong executor and enjoys tackling complex issues, managing day-to-day processes, and improving upon established policies and procedures, and has a thorough understanding of mortgage servicing laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of Pre-Foreclosure Specialists who are responsible for managing all back office pre-foreclosure activities on delinquent loans.
  • Ensure that the team meets or exceeds all performance metrics and goals.
  • Coach, mentor, and train team members to improve their skills and abilities.
  • Monitor team members' performance and provide feedback and mentorship, as needed.
  • Work with senior management to develop and implement holistic strategies to advance and maintain the teams' performance, efficiency and confidence.
  • Ensure that the team's training is kept up to date on compliance regulations and laws related to pre-foreclosure, foreclosure and mortgage servicing.
  • Manage and maintain positive relationships with vendors and other stakeholders involved in the pre-foreclosure process.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the organization to ensure the seamless execution of pre-foreclosure processes.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends and best practices related to pre-foreclosure, and provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the team, including themselves, adhere to all regulatory guidelines: Federal, State, Investor, Insurer, State, as well as Valon company's policies.
  • Develop, improve and maintain policies and procedures to ensure that the team is operating in compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.
  • Conduct regular control and quality checks of the team's processes and procedures, to ensure compliance adherence with internal and external SLAs, and also, regulations and laws.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks, while overseeing the improvement of risk assessment and management practices.
  • Work in ambiguity to operationalize and improve operational efficiency at the ground level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage default servicing, with an emphasis on pre-foreclosure and foreclosure
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams in a medium to large-scale mortgage servicing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues and resolution strategies to senior management, as well as non-business stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of different default processes, including but not limited to: Loss mitigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, property inspections and preservation and collateral document management.
  • Knowledge of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae servicing guidelines.
  • Experience with project management and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and business needs.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
