Fixing our K-12 education system is a civilizationally-important problem. We believe that all of our problems — including the ones that dominate the headlines — are downstream of education.
We have a simple thesis on how to solve it: empower 1,000's of educators to launch microschools in their communities.
We believe the historical tradeoff between price (tuition) and quality is a false dichotomy.
PrimerOS automates and eliminates much of the costs of traditional schools. Microschools have a structural advantage — asset-light real estate — which means much lower capex and opex. You put it together, and you get something that's never existed before: a world-class education that's accessible to normal American families and can rapidly scale.
What You’ll Do
As you might imagine, our revenue engine is quite complex: a mixture of state scholarship funds, education savings accounts and private payments. We collect tuition directly from parents (via ACH / credit / debit cards), from parents via state scholarships, and (in some cases) from states directly. Your role will be to own (and help build) the receivables workflow for each of these revenue segments and manage both the internal and external processes to make that happen.
This role will require interfacing with our government partners, parents, and school leaders while leveraging strong technical and operational skills to manage complex systems, processes, and data. You should be comfortable both designing the system and rolling up your sleeves to make a call when things aren’t moving quickly enough.
This role requires acute attention to detail and a true love of dashboards, internal systems, and automations. You are a spreadsheet whiz and are adept at automating workflows and analyzing data. You’re able to comfortably and competently engage with our key stakeholders via email and phone, from time to time.
The bursar is accountable for designing and executing the system that ensures we collect 100% of tuition each year.
Responsibilities
Own Primer’s revenue process from end-to-end: from collaborating on the initial tuition structure to design and execution of the collection process.
Build and own our internal revenue reporting system to ensure we’re accurately recognizing revenue.
Interface directly with our state scholarship partners to understand program changes, and ensure parents hit key deadlines (initial enrollment, tuition distributions, etc.).
Provide reporting to the leadership team on revenue recognition, collections, and other tuition-related items.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven expertise in spreadsheets and data analysis, with familiarity in tools like Excel, Salesforce, and other revenue operations and financial management platforms (i.e., Stripe, Chargebee, Chargify, etc.)
Experience in tuition operations, revenue operations, or as a Bursar is a plus – but not required.
Work experience within a fast-growing startup is a plus.
