The Principal Packaging Engineer, Disposables R&D provides technical and project leadership to lead packaging programs of varying size, scope, and complexity. Develops and executes packaging design control strategies for across multiple Business Units (BU), New Product Introductions (NPI) and sustaining initiatives. Works with BU leaders and stakeholders and is accountable for creating a development plan that reflects a total system solution. Establishes and documents packaging design concepts, criteria, scope, and details of all packaging engineering efforts. Works with key functions (engineering, commercial, supply chain, manufacturing) to define key capabilities and packaging performance requirements across all disciplines. Responsible for capturing programmatic risks and coordinating retirement strategies.

Achieves goals, referring policy and highly complex technical and business issues as needed; frequently interacts at Sr. Management levels across company and to external entities; works extensively with cross-functional teams, at all technical and managerial levels.

Collaborates and interfaces extensively in and outside R&D, both within and outside the company. Works effectively with multiple diverse technical and business functions, and uses tact and discretion to resolve conflicts. Displays solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills, and communicates effectively with customers, multiple teams and diverse stakeholders at all levels.

Ensures financial, technical design, quality, and project management accountability for resources and results; works with other teams, Program Managers and leaders to achieve strategic Systems goals and integration needs; ensures highest level of global compliance, quality, and ethics in conjunction with the Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies.

Executes short and long term objectives, with moderate impact to division strategy with limited impact to corporate strategy. Working through diverse staff, leverages technical opportunities for business advantage.

Accountable for overall outcome of programs or projects through influence of indirect staff and multiple teams to achieve system design expectations and integration goals. Administrative management includes: effective work assignment, quality oversight, contract management (as applicable), and budget planning, according to signature levels designated by Corporate Finance

Resolves problems and makes decisions requiring technical depth.

Sets priorities displaying a solid understanding of short term business strategy, and basic understanding of long-term strategy to support decisions, solutions, goal setting, project plans, communication interventions, and problem-solving strategies.

Serves and is recognized as the premier Packaging subject matter expert within Disposables R&D and validates all technical components and results

Works in concert with operational management, translates corporate and divisional strategies to program/project group to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Program, Department, and Division.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering, Packaging or Technical discipline.

12+ years of experience in packaging development in the medical device industry, including sustaining and new product introduction.

The Packaging Engineer is expected to have broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in disposables medical device packaging development. This includes the regulatory environment within the US and EU and functional/driving aspects of QMS and cGMP.

Solid leadership experience with Executive level Stakeholder communication skills. Ability to manage and define business needs into tactical, cost effective, and feasible program /project plans and development strategies.
