Brief Job Overview

This is a professional individual contributor position that will be part of the Healthcare, Quality & Safety Center of Excellence under the Healthcare Patient Safety, and Information division. This role will be responsible for contributing to the development of future standards and solutions for Healthcare Information and Technology that addresses the needs of healthcare professionals as well as for supporting key workstreams overseeing all clinical informatic related topics. This includes partnership and collaboration with USP Expert Committees, external experts, and cross-functional teams on exploring key topics or other emerging areas through leading critical evaluation of relevant literature, scientific data and evidence and development of priority standards and solutions.

In addition, this position coordinates and facilitates the workplans related to the above with all relevant USP’s Expert Committees and healthcare practitioner input into USP standards-setting activities. This individual will drive outreach to key stakeholders at key conferences and related events and coordinate development of key stakeholder forums, workshops, roundtables, and education to foster engagement and promote adoption of these standards and solutions.

  • Plan, organize, and lead the integration of technology projects to deliver specific measured results to stakeholders.
  • Lead funding opportunities through grant solicitation and submissions.
  • Participates in planning and organizing of activities of the Expert Committee, subcommittees and Expert Panels to guide the development and revision of standards.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in new technologies, therapeutics and other emergent areas and provides recommendations for potential application of these areas to clinical informatics.
  • Works with the director and peers to develop concept papers, stimuli articles, and other position papers for use when communicating with other USP departments and external stakeholders.
  • Acts as USP liaison for governmental inter-agency activities.
  • Identifies opportunities for and collaborates in the development of implementation tools including external stakeholder forums, communications, education course development and digital tools.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of enhanced initiatives for stakeholder engagements on draft and final standards such as forums, workshops, roundtables and other events.
  • Develops, monitors and reports on the effectiveness of programs by establishing relevant evaluation metrics and collection capabilities; demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily work and operations.
  • Applies knowledge of current trends in public health and clinical informatics to prepare information for Expert Committee to facilitate decision-making.

Who USP is Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  • Healthcare practitioner (e.g., Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician, Physician Assistant, Physician, Informatics Professional or other healthcare related field member) with more than 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Degree or certification in healthcare informatics.
  • Three years’ experience in an IT role.

Additional Desired Preferences

  • Functional Knowledge

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including advanced functions in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

o Possesses knowledge of the regulatory requirements for health system EHR’s.

o Healthcare operations background desirable, such as health information management or other support functions.

o Epic or Cerner end user experience preferred.

o Familiarity with mappings between local terms and standard terminologies (SNOMED CT, ICD-10, RxNORM)

o Ability to synthesize, analyze, and interpret data

o Experience in change management within health systems.

o Understanding and knowledge of organizational development within the context of non-profits.

o Understanding of USP standards-setting processes and compendial terminology.

o Knowledge of global pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and related trade associations.

  • Communication Skills

o Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

o Well-developed organizational, interpersonal communications, negotiation, writing, attention to detail, and strong listening skills.

o Strong presentation and overall communication skills, both written and oral.

o Ability to lead meeting and resolve conflicts.

o Understanding of grant writing and submission process.

  • Project Management

o Strong analytical skills and ability to work on basic processes as well as strategic initiatives required.

o Expertise in evaluating research of evidence-based information.

o Demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and the ability to develop and review effective Expert Committee and Expert Panel work plans consistent with organizational mission and objectives.

o Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

o Ability to effectively prioritize and efficiently manage multiple programs.

o Results driven with demonstrated successful outcomes.

  • Relationship Building

o Ability to operate independently where appropriate yet understand when to escalate issues and how to establish effective working relationships in a team setting.

o Ability to convene and collaborate with experts to complete projects.

o Ability to gain consensus.

o Ability and desire to work well with diverse employees and customers in a cooperative and friendly manner.

o Operates collaboratively at all levels of the organization in a highly technical environment.

o Able to work flexible hours when needed. In addition to normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, serves on a team to provide 24 hour a day, 7 days a week response to emergency alarm calls and can be available on short notice to support requests during unusual hours, especially early or late in the day during the business week.
