Principal Software Engineer

The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for all phases of software development activities for Hologic products, works on projects that involve intensive, diversified knowledge of engineering principles, carries out projects with high degree of creativity and independent activity and may evaluate the feasibility of projects and counsel others about aspects of projects related to his/her specialized knowledge.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs software engineering functions within a scheduled timeframe and performance criteria
• Technical management: Technical responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting the software development activities for projects related to the design and development of Hologic products
• Mentoring: Responsible for the mentoring of other software engineers
• Software development: Technical responsibility for the specification, design, development, review, debugging, verification and validation of software for use in, and related to, Hologic products. Responsibility for the evaluation and selection of software development tools
• Engineering documentation: Responsible for engineering documentation of software specifications, designs, modifications and technical procedures

Qualifications

• Ability to evaluate and select software development tools and work with vendors
• Ability to communicate effectively & constructively
• Ability to work independently on all software development and technical management tasks
• Strong written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Thorough familiarity with Windows operating system is required.

Experience

• Minimum of 8 years experience in software development.
• Experience leading projects.
• Skilled in C++ and/or C# .NET programming language
• Skilled in designing software using UML and OO techniques
• Skilled in writing software design documentation
• Experience working in an FDA regulated environment is a plus
• Skill / experience with modern micro-service software architecture, distributed systems, and cloud computing is essential.

Education

• BS/BA required in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
• MS preferred

The annualized base salary range for this role is $126,300 to $210,400 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
