The role


As Product Counsel, your mandate is to advise a fast-moving, dynamic company that is ready to scale its business and processes. This role will impact ONE’s vision by helping the company launch and market new products in compliance with relevant consumer protection laws. You will work closely with the Product, Marketing, Engineering and Operations teams to provide business-oriented advice and support at every step of the product life-cycle, from design and development to customer operations, marketing and advertising activities, and to counsel the product and business teams on applicable laws and regulations relating to consumer protection. This role reports to the Head Product Counsel. 


This role is responsible for: 


  • Primarily supporting product offerings and providing legal and regulatory guidance as the product team develops, implements, and updates One’s products and services
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders to help drive ONE's strategies and initiatives
  • Providing timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on consumer banking, lending and payments law, including federal and state consumer financial laws, consumer protection laws, and new rules, enforcement actions and other guidance coming out of federal and state agencies
  • Developing and maintaining subject matter expertise across the U.S. deposits, lending and payment space, including familiarity with regulations such as UDAAP, Fair Lending, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, Reg E, and Reg Z
  • Driving best practices and knowledge-sharing with legal and compliance colleagues 
  • Assisting with managing product and marketing approvals processes, both internally and with bank partners and other key stakeholders
  • Draft and maintain consumer-facing legal policies, documents and related materials, including terms and conditions, product policies and disclosures, and implement related processes

  • Expert Career (10+ Years)

  • J.D. and admission to the bar and in good standing 
  • Relevant work experience advising consumer finance companies 
  • Command of the laws and regulations governing payments and consumer lending 


Pay Transparency


The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from $250,000 to $275,000. Pay is generally based upon the level, complexity, responsibility, and job duties / requirements of the specific position. Leveling Philosophy


In order to thoughtfully scale the company and avoid downstream inequities, we’ve adopted a flat titling structure at ONE. Though we may occasionally post a role externally with a prefix such as “Senior” to reflect the external level of the position, we do not use prefixes in titles like that internally unless in a position which manages a team. Internal titles typically include your specific functional responsibility, such as engineering, product management or sales, and often include additional descriptors to ensure clarity of role and placement within our organization (i.e. “Engineer, Platform”, “Sales, Business Development” or “Manager, Talent”). Employees are paid commensurate with their experience and the internal level within ONE.
