About Coda

The document and the spreadsheet — the paradigms that still largely dominate how businesses and people operate — have remained relatively unchanged for the last 40 years. We are building a surface that we believe has the opportunity to define the paradigms of the next 40 years. It will start as simple as a document but can grow into a powerful, connected app. It is an exciting mission but an extremely challenging set of design problems, especially since Coda is built for everyone. We believe that everyone, not just programmers, should be empowered to mold Coda into their personalized tool for work and life.

Coda is currently used by tens of thousands of people and we're early in our journey. Joining our small design team so early means your fingerprints will be all over the foundation of the product.

About the internship:

• Design, build and ship a new feature inside of Coda.
• Collaborate closely with our world-class Product Design team, currently a team of 14
• Drive research or collaborate closely with Product Managers to understand customer and business needs in order to form a user-centered solution
• Oversee the build process and work with developers in a tight feedback loop
• Critique and iterate on design ideas with other team members, proactively opening up your own ideas for critique.
• Explore foundational concepts with big ripple effects to small UI interactions

About you:

• Available for a full-time internship in Summer 2022, fully remote or in person close to Coda hubs in San Francisco, Seattle, and Mountain View.
• You’re comfortable using Figma, from creating components from scratch to using existing components
• You’re excited about solving complex problems
• You have work that radiates craftsmanship, from visual to product design
• You’re eager to talk to customers and learn about their needs, frustrations and goals
• You have an owner mentality and willingness to roll up your sleeves

What we’re looking for in your portfolio:

• A portfolio that showcases your superpower.
• Portfolio format: Website, Doc, Figma File, or other.
• 2-3 case studies where you show how you took a feature (big or small) from a problem to a full solution (design specs, prototype or built)
• Case studies:
• Conceptual, student or personal projects are perfectly fine, and encouraged!
• What was your role, how long did it take
• Show us a clear problem and process: what tradeoffs and insights did you encounter along the way that ultimately led you to a solution?
• More: High-fidelity mocks or prototypes
• Less: Pictures of a post-it filled design sprint :)
• We’re lucky to receive a high volume of applicants. To manage our time well, we only spend a few minutes on each portfolio initially. Please highlight your most relevant works well.
