Job Description:
JOB OBJECTIVE: The job of the Product Manager is to plan and execute the design, launch, commercialization and maintenance of assigned product line(s). The Product Manager has ability to independently manage a product line (typically $5-25M +).
OUR TEAM:
We are a team of Product Managers working at the interface between Promega and the life science community. By understanding the needs of researchers and other users of products, we can direct product development and commercialization to meet their unique needs. We offer market-leading products that have helped life science researchers and pharma/biotech companies make breakthrough discoveries and also supply other markets that can apply our technology.
YOUR ROLE:
As part of this team, an understanding of current scientific research and a curiosity to learn will be used to guide development opportunities. The Product Manager is a team player that brings a customer perspective to many other functions in the company, but especially in defining needs that can be met by new or existing products. With a global scope, we collaborate with colleagues across the world to gain insights and to communicate our plans.
YOUR EXPERIENCE:
You will have a background in life science as well as at least 3 years of product and business management experience. Use your history as a strategic thinker to create and communicate plans to many levels of a larger organization. A working understanding of proteomics and protein analysis techniques will benefit the role.
CORE DUTIES:
New Product Development:
1. Serve as Product Manager on a cross-functional new product development (NPD) team.
2. Coordinate with Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to develop new product market assessments
3. Lead and review product requirements, voice of customer (VoC) and go to market strategies with NPD team
4. Translate desired features and customer benefits into a value proposition.
5. Conduct analysis and recommend list price.
6. Lead and provide input to the design of global product marketing campaigns.
7. Collaborate with operations or appropriate business area to determine product packaging.
8. Review and approve product technical material.
9. Develop accurate global product revenue and production forecasts.
10. As appropriate, prepare and/or deliver product training materials for internal and customer training sessions.
Product Launch and Commercialization:
1. Develop and drive projects and tactics needed for product launch and commercialization, including product images, sales binders, branch communications, and internal communications.
2. Participate and/or present in sales and marketing meetings.
3. Provide customer facing presentations or webinars describing technical information on product(s).
4. May develop global service and support strategies.
Product Marketing and Life Cycle Management:
1. Produce and execute product marketing plans for new and existing products and ensure plans align with other parts of the company.
2. Responsible for post-launch review metrics, evaluation of product performance in customer’s hands and voice of customer (VOC).
3. Perform regular financial review of product performance, competitive positioning and pricing in the market, market share gains, wins/losses and best practices.
4. Manage response to customer complaints with cross-functional teams.
5. Develop and update forecasts for marketing, sales and manufacturing.
6. Recommend, plan and communicate product improvements, discontinuations and obsolescence plans.
Communication:
1. Excellent verbal and written communication to represent function to all levels including managers.
2. Develop and maintain network of internal and external business contacts.
3. Network with customers to understand technical needs, trends and future products. Builds long-term relationships with customers, stakeholders and/or key opinion leaders.
4. Liaison between Strategic Business Units, Operations, Global Support Services, Legal and technical product development team.
5. Build network of advisors within the global channels and sales force. Assists in sales calls or closing sales, when appropriate.
6. Prepare and give presentations on marketing and sales strategies and product

OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
1. Identify and support commercial opportunities and risks.
2. Prepare background material and interpret external market and technology trends.
3. Understand and apply financial concepts of net present value, budget and forecasting processes.
4. May mentor an intern.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. B.S. in life sciences and/or equivalent technical knowledge and proficiency.
2. 3+ years life sciences industry related experience in Product and/or Marketing Management or related experiences.
3. Highly motivated self-starter with strong bias for action result-orientation; tackles tough problems with firm deadlines.
4. Experience with new product development process including product launch and commercialization.
5. Understands product life cycle and application to product portfolio.
6. Effectively and efficiently prioritize multiple projects and resources based on an awareness of business goals and priorities.
7. Communicate and negotiate effectively with several levels of co-workers and external contacts, both in writing and verbally. Adapt style and approach to suit different audiences.
Build rapport and gain support/commitment. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
8. Experience working with international branch or distributor marketing organization to effect global product launch, positioning and promotion.
9. Knowledge of manufacturing process, inventory management, and distribution logistics.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. B.S. or Ph.D. in life science with concentrated training in specified area.
2. MBA or equivalent desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to use a computer/Microsoft Office applications
2. Ability to travel typically 10-30% of the time.
