Position Summary Information

General Information
The Forbes Center fellowship provides advanced, hands-on training in production management for recent college graduates and early career professionals.

Focused on music performances, the fellow will participate in Opera, Orchestral, Jazz, Choral and Band performances at the Center and provide support to professional touring theatrical productions. Under the mentorship of the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator the fellow works side by side on over 200 performances and events per year and is given hands on experience in operating a professional performing arts venue.

The fellowship begins September 3rd, 2023 and runs through May 12, 2024. The fellowship requires a season-long commitment.

The fellow will receive a stipend total of $15,225 for the 36 week contract, which will be paid in increments bi-weekly. The fellow will not work more than 40 hours per week with an average of 29 hours per week across the season with no benefits. Housing and benefits are not included.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Production Services Manager the fellow will participate in the process of scheduling, creating and updating the production calendar, assisting with load-ins and load-outs, managing performances, providing technical support for events at the Center and other duties as assigned. All fellows work in their chosen concentration plus as production support for over 200 performances a year. Daily activities may include show prep, show running, hospitality assistance, general maintenance, and basic support for production office operations. Work hours will be irregular and will include early morning, evening and weekend calls.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a broad knowledge and experience in technical theatre as well as solid organizational and computer skills. Familiarity with Google calendar and Microsoft office is preferred. Candidates must be able to multi-task, be highly organized, show initiative, take direction well, and work well as part of a team as well as independently.

This position will not work more than 40 hours per week with an average of 29 hours per week across the season. This position will end by May 12, 2024 and is not eligible for benefits.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
