Production Manager

Position Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will have the responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Packaging department. The position is responsible for the overall safety of the employees, food safety and overseeing departmental costs and efficiency. Duties also include oversight of packaging supply inventories and quality. Additionally, the Production Manager will interface with procurement teams, maintain pack-to-stock inventories and 100% order fulfillment by executing to pack plan.

The Production Manager is directly responsible for supervising the operation of the assigned manufacturing area, maintaining schedules, quality of work, planning task assignments and training, employee selection and development and discipline of employees.

Position Responsibilities

• Manage the process and the team to ensure maximum packaging capacity.
• Responsible for Triangle, Powder, Hand pack and pure pack packaging lines.
• Identify new techniques in packaging optimization.
• Participate in all equipment and system designs. Control modifications of machinery to ensure progressive improvement changes while keeping the risk associated with change within reasonable limits.
• Participate in strategic equipment improvement projects.
• Actively observe and monitor materials and labor to achieve optimum capacity and overall cost reduction.
• Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations regarding occupational health and food safety.
• Ensure daily production meets all standards and production schedules.
• Lead and motivate the team to improve quality, safety and cost performance.
• Perform food safety inspections, monitors and assists sanitation / QC employees to ensure proper sanitation (HAACP and GMPs).
• Engage in all system designs in controlling modifications of machinery to assure progressive improvement changes. Ensure risk associated with change is within reasonable limits.
• Recommend and implement alternate approaches and solutions of identified technical issues.
• Participate in audits of supplier locations.
• Ensure customer specification requirements are met.
• Implement graphic design changes in Packaging and maintain inventory.
• Investigate customer inquiries with written follow-up communication.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including Insurance Certificates, Kosher, and continued guarantees.
• Conduct food safety inspection and oversee Sanitation & Quality Control to validate proper Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Expedite price changes/updates contracts and cost models, package graphics, label or construction changes. Issue purchase orders.
• Execute and communicate daily shop orders to Supervisors and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is required, major in Packaging Technology, Food Processing or Engineering is preferred.
• Three (3) years of manufacturing related experience in operation management or Engineering is required.
• Three (3) years of Packaging experience is required.
• Proven ability to foresee potential problems and take the corrective action is required.
• Proven ability to effectively manage and train personnel is required.
• Previous working knowledge of equipment capabilities and product characteristics is required.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
• Bilingual, English/Spanish is preferred.

The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $97,519 - $126,774 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on candidate's experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
