Title of Position: Program Assistant – Student Life Program Specialist

Function of Position
The Student Life Program Specialist shall be responsible for the oversight, development, and administration of Student Life Office services and programs that provide engaging and inclusive experiences within the programmatic areas of multicultural programming, recognized student organization (RSO) support funding, services and programs, and major university events.
Responsibilities include primary advisement of multicultural student leaders, organizations, councils, initiatives, activities, and events within the Student Life Office at Eastern Illinois University. This position works collaboratively with the Office of Leadership and Engagement and the EIU Student Affairs Division.
Typical Responsibilities
- Administrative oversight of Multicultural programmatic areas (Black Student Union, Latin American Student Organization, Diversity Action Council, and LEAD).
- Administrative oversight of Multicultural Greek-lettered Chapters/Interest Groups/Councils - NPHC – National Pan-Hellenic Council & UGC – United Greek Council - operations, finances, membership recruitment/recognition, risk management, compliance, educational training/transition, and student development.
- Administrative oversight of multicultural signature events that include: Meet the Greeks, Alumni Greek Step Show, NPHC Greek Weekend, Greek Picnic, BSU Week, MBEIU Scholarship Pageant, Bring it Black Dance, BSU Block Party, Dia De Los Muertos, and LASO Loteria.
- Assist in administrative oversight of major university events: Welcome Weekend, Pantherpalooza, Family Weekend, Homecoming Week, Winter Welcome Daze, Panther Bash, and other events.
- Assist in oversight and administration of Registered Student Organizations support funding, services, and programs.
- Assist with advisement, orientation, training, recruitment, development, and supervision of (5) Student Life Office Graduate Assistants.
Position Requirements
- Computer competency to include Microsoft Office.
- Membership in a college/university student organization.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Able to work weekends and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience in a college/university student organization.
- Experience working with multicultural Greek councils.
- Knowledge of student programming, multicultural programming, fraternity/sorority life, or other student organizations/programs.
- Membership in a Greek Letter Organization, specifically in the governing councils of Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic (PHC) or National Pan-Hellenic Councils (NPHC).
- Ability to work as a part of a multicultural team in an inclusive work environment.
- Experience in event planning.
The Civil Service Examination for this classification is a credentials assessment. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from qualified applicants. Upon successful selection of a candidate, all scores will be voided from this Program Coordinator - Training and Development Specialist register.
Salary Range: $36,360 - $40,000 / annual salary.
